Kicking is important at higher levels, but I have seen many a small school win despite an atrocious kicking game. You arent going to win 5A or 6A with bad kicking, but you may win 1A, 2A, and 3A. I would consider the kicking game a luxury and bonus points. Kicking makes good teams great, and helps great teams be Champions...but a bad team is still a bad team. For me I would say Center probably. The inability to snap or the QB/Center...

^^^ Wow! Did not know that... Would love for people to fill in more gaps. This is almost like a movie script the more I peel back the layers. 11 of their 14 games were decided by 2 TD's or Less... 8 of those 11 games were determined by one TD or less.

When I was doing some recent research one of the most unusual outliers I came across was the 2002 Webster County Trojans. Webster County went 12-2 and reached the Semi-Finals before losing to Corbin 28-21 on the road. The Trojans defeated 10-3 Crittenden County, 8-3 Trigg County, 9-3 Monroe County, and went on the road to knock off a previously 12-0 Owensboro Catholic in the Regional Finals. Does anyone remember this team? Their stats...

I want to say Pikeville has done it in the past. I am not sure "alternate" is the best way to describe it, but I know a year or two ago they mixed helmets up and did a throwback look one game and had a new modern design they used for another game.

I think the KHSAA forgot that they put the far Eastern Districts in Region 3 in 3A. You are looking at a potential trip from Belfry to Louisville for a Regional Final. Then again.. I guess if everyone is tired of Belfry vs. Central in the 3A Finals it makes sense to force them to play each other in Round 3

North Forsyth is a big school. That is suburban Cumming, Ga 7A school but was probably one of the weaker Forsyth County teams last year. Went 4-6 last year but would be probably a top 10 6A school in KY

Williams is a player. Warren will be much improved with another year under his belt. The only knock on OC from what I have seen is usually they have a couple tackling machines on Defense and I dont really see that.

No inside info but just a hunch: -The two NKY Districts iN Region 3 like their set-up for travel purposes. - The Far Eastern District in Region 4 may not like their matchup, but definitely don't want to drive to NKY. - The CKY District in Region 4 loves their matchup and would rather drive to EKY than a shorter drive to NKY for a stiffer test. - The Louisville District in Region 2 loves their matchup. It is manageable and an easy drive....

Not sure on that... a W-V Coach must be expecting him to play because he had him included as a returning starter in the numbers they submitted to Calpreps. If Smith plays W-V has a legit shot at the Regional Finals.

North Laurel is the team that has caught my eye as a sleeper in the East. They return basically every key player. As you mentioned I expect Whitley and Harlan County to be tough, and Southwestern may very well be the favorite in that Region with what they return.

I think they are just rumors but I am not plugged in with Pikeville Battaile is a sensational basketball player so it wouldn't overly surprise me... but at the same time he is also a gamer and you don't usually see Pikeville kids choose not to play for MacNamee.

Pulaski is kind of a wild card. They were State Runner-Ups.. but also came a hair away from losing in Round 1. Jake Johnson's role to last year's team was huge. With that said, Hines gets Year 2 with WIley Cain at QB and they have plenty of young talent. Wouldnt be surprised to see them in the State Finals, wouldn't be surprised to see them out in Round 2.

Pburg is in a tight spot right now and 2017 may be a watershed year. Lots of unrest with the natives, a brand new High School is being built in the County, and the talent continues to look elsewhere. The bright side is Pburg plays in a very winnable District and have a very good player back in Ethan Varney. I would consider 2017 a "Must Win" year. The Blackcats really need a District Title and a playoff win. If they finish 2nd in the...

I don't expect Pikeville to be at the same level as the past three or four years. Wyatt Battaile is a great QB and the Panthers have a lot of young talent, but they will be extremely green at most positions. I dont think their schedule is complete yet, but from what I see I already am looking at 4 games I don't think Pikeville wins (Hazard, Paintsville, Belfry, LCA). Depending on who fills out the last two games a 5-5 season wouldn't...

If Cartersville plays again this year (I know BG played them last year)... they are expected to be loaded once more and QB Trevor Lawrence is being considered the #1 QB in America. I doubt they will be there..but if for some reason Prince Avenue Christian from Athens is there let me know. That's my nephew's school (he is only in middle school) and my in-laws are plugged in there so I always liek following them.

The Hickory Ridge team Ryle is playing is intriguing. I dont see a Hickory Ridge , GA... If it is Hickory Ridge, NC they went 12-3 last year and was in the 3-AA Semi-Finals which would probably be a 4A or 5A school in KY Greenville, GA went 1-9 in 1A Christian Heritage went 1-9 in 1A-Privates SE Whitfied went 5-5 in 4A NW Whitfield went 8-4 in 4A

Thomasville, GA is usually pretty stout. Think they have been a little down lately. The other schools elude me that BG is playing. Look like Pepperell went 10-2 and lost big to Benedictine in 2A (who crushed everyone) Coahulla Creek went 0-10 in AAA North Murray went 8-4 in 3A

2016 was a major positive step for Phelps as David Jones created momentum and got the Hornets some wins. They re-join District competition in 2017 which will be a tall task with Pikeville and Hazard in their District. With that said I still think the Hornets pick up some wins on their schedule and may be a tough out in the First Round playoff game.

In my humble opinion I think there are three teams that you get to choose from to win the 1A Title this year. Everyone knows about Beechwood and Hazard, but Paintsville will be the third option. Really nice core returning for the Tigers including big Tyrese Allen.

Pike Central should show improvement in terms of play, but their record may be worse. Last year was one of the weakest Pike Central teams in recent memory. They return Seth Conn, who is a ball player, but they still just don't have the talent pool around him. This will be year two under Coach Ratliff. Last year was one of those "break it down to build it up" type of years so I expect their players to fit better into his system. Don't...

Not sure... I think you certainly see certain schools who have gained some key players that are in border Counties. With that said, and pardon my short rant that is not directed at you in any fashion, but I have always been fascinated with the premise that a mythical invisible State Line suddenly makes kids more talented. I would say there are just as many if not considerably more kids and families who cross County Lines to play football...
