5-1 isn’t a beat down in baseball because a team down 4 runs can tie it up with one swing of the bat. It’s not as hard to come back from larger deficits in baseball, because you will always get your chance to swing the bat, and because of the ability to score multiple runs during your teams half inning at the plate. Large deficits are much harder to overcome in football because you can only score once per possession, and at some point, you...

Yep. Typical conspiracy theory. Considering how many people would have to be involved, and the risks involved, its unlikely a fix is in. Too many people would have to know, AND keep their mouths shut.

In yesterday’s game he won roughly $52k. Before he started his run, that would have been the 9th highest total ever. It’s only 28th highest now.

That’s true too. I’ve lived on both sides. I mismanaged money in my 20’s (though not anywhere near to the point of being in big trouble), and then for most of my 30’s I carried no debt except my car and house. Now I’ve selectively, and carefully added some small debt and a few credit cards to maximize rewards, which provide me thousands of dollars in value every year (airline tickets and cash back). What little debt I carry has improved my...

Maybe saving less was the wrong term. I should have said you're missing out on the compounding of the money that you spent upfront. Again, refer to Duece's example that he gave on financing. By not taking advantage of cheap (or free) financing, you're losing out on the interest the cash you spent up front could have made. So if you buy a $30k car and put $15k down, the $15k you would have spent to buy the vehicle outright, is still sitting...

If you pay cash for everything, you’re also saving less cash. In addition, the biggest chunk of your savings should be going towards retirement. If you’re spending big chunks on large purchases (such as cars, big home repairs, appliances) you’re limiting the amount you earn in interest, and thus the amount you are saving over time and contributing to retirement. Again, refer to Deuces example above. Again, I understand borrowing too much is a...

While your example is simplistic, and optimistic (you won’t always make 7% back), it is the proper way to think about it, or any other large purchase. Interest free/really low interest rate deals are really free money that you’re silly not to take advantage of if you qualify. There are several other advantages than the ones you mention. First, you’ll have more cash available to you (rather than sunk into your car) should you really need it...

Really, it's not even 10 years. If you're going to hang on to the car for more than 4 or 5 years, depreciation isn't that big of a deal. The biggest hit comes in the first couple years. After that it slows down, especially if you have a car that holds its value. The biggest problem with depreciation is being underwater in your loan, which can happen with new or used vehicles.

Plus Nicholas County won over 20 games this year, with some wins over good teams. The Scott-Nicholas game could be better than you might expect.

Never moved as a child. Moved 4 times in the 5 years right after college. Only two were big, once into Philly, then out to NKY a couple years later. Have moved once since I've been in NKY, into the house I'm currently in, but that was 19 years ago.

Yes they avoid Campbell County, but they get Scott, who beat Campbell County twice, and Harrison County. Scott’s record is below .500 but they played a tough schedule and beat and competed well against some top teams. But Montgomery does get a huge advantage in playing on Friday night against St. Pat and can hold back their number 1.

Hey, I don’t totally disagree with you, and I commend anyone who can live comfortably and completely debt free. But as others have said, using debt wisely is a key avenue to building wealth. The debt I have actually allows me to save more money and helps me budget.

In a perfect world, yes. In reality, most probably cannot. Borrowing to pay for a car isn’t a bad thing, but far too many people borrow too much, for too long, for a vehicle. These 6,7, or even 8 year loans especially when you put very little down, are not good things. But if you can qualify for a really low interest, or no interest loan, borrowing isn’t a bad thing.

My last few cars have had that. I thought it would be a cool feature to have, but it really added nothing to my driving experience, and I really saw no benefit when using the feature. I haven’t used the “manual” option in a long time, and don’t see myself ever using it again.

I’ve almost always bought used. There’s always good deals an great cars with low mileage, and with sites like car guru and cars.com, those deals are easy to find. We did just buy a new car for my wife in December. It was a 2018 they were clearing out that was only a couple grand more than used cars of the same make and model. With financing deals (0%), it made buying new a no brainer. I still would lean towards buying used.

I'm guessing I still can. I exclusively drove a stick for almost 10 years. Problem is I haven't driven one in 23 years. And I don't miss driving one at all, so I'll likely never find out if I can still drive a stick.

Huge advantage, and really unfair to the others who had to claw, lie and fight for 6 weeks, where he just got to hang out and build relationships stress free on ?Extinction Island. Plus it made for really bad TV, as the winner got virtually no air time most of the season. I understand the premise and why you'd want to give those voted out a chance to come back into the game. But the way it was done this year added no drama, or suspense to the...

Agreed. Two people in the finale 4 who got voted out at some point, and the winner spent 28 out of the 39 days out of the game, interacting with most of the jury. He never had an opportunity to really screw anyone over, or make any enemies. No one who gets voted out in the third episode and spends 3/4 of the game on the outside doesn’t deserve to win. He played great those last 4 days but he should have never even had a chance to win.

I know they are actively working on it. I know the football job took a long time to fill, but that was a unique situation and the delay was tied to what teaching positions would be open. That’s not an issue in this case, and I would guess the hire would happen much sooner. The boys position was filled in late May when Fromeyer was hired.

I loved Looney Tunes growing up, and at one time had a boxed set on DVD. Looking back on them now, some of the humor wouldn't fly today. There were a lot of other Hanna-Barbera cartoons that I also enjoyed beyond the ones mentioned in the poll. Huckleberry Hound, JabberJaw, Yogi Bear etc. I also really enjoyed Starblazers and can remember running home from the bus stop so I could get home in time to see the start of the next episode.

I would agree that this was handled clumsily. They had done such a good job of building the character over 7 seasons, and while I think everyone knew where this was going, it ended up being a rush to get there. This whole season, while entertaining, just feels rushed.

How could anyone be surprised at Dany? How many people has she killed watched burn or have killed over the length of the series? She's been ruthless since she came into any power. And now that her world has fallen apart (she's lost her best friend, her protector, two of her three "children", her love has rejected her, and her hand has failed her a few times), is it really so hard to believe she snapped?
