  1. Got my copy a couple of days ago and couldn't put it down. If you are a sports fan it is a must read. Kudos to Mark on a fine book.
  2. Congrats SV on a hard fought win over Ballard. The Sweet 16 never ceases to amaze me. Myself and 3 other friends from Columbus,OH were thoroughly impressed. Maybe Timmy Knipp and his team mates can keep the title in the mountains next year.
  3. This thread would be comical if the issue were not so serious. It is obvious that Coach Cal has cut some corners to be successful in the past. The old axiom of "where there's smoke, theres' fire" come to mind. I am not a UK fan. However, given the elite status and exposure of the UK program, I don't think that Coach Cal is gonna have to dig very deep in his bag of tricks to keep UK on top. Great university, great facilities, and huge fan base. Cal will thrive at UK. I may be wary, but not worried about Coach Cal. Too many tools to work with at UK to screw things up.
  4. UofL pays Rick Pitino premium dollars because he is/was a premium Coach. When you pay a coach the type of money that Pitino demands, you are buying more than the x's& o's. You are buying the mystique, the brand, the class that is/was Rick Pitino. You no longer enjoy that unique, special relationship that you had 7 months ago. He needs to do what Bob Knight did a few years back and refuse his salary because he felt that he had not given his best effort to TX Tech. This is the least that Rick could do to help restore his reputation. After all, would UofL paid him this type of money had it known that he was going to damage its image so callously?
  5. Rick handled his presser in typical Pitino fashion. He was contrite and apologetic. However, his biggest problem comes with the fallout within his parish over this. With all of his faults,Rick has tried to maintain a close relationship with the Church. He has stepped on some toes with the introduction of abortion into the discussion.
  6. OMG!!!! That is terrible. But to the Tribune's credit, without the fair news, the entire 4 pages of the Trib would be comics and car ads:-)
  7. I feel sorry for that interim coach at Arizona. That kind of loss doesn't sit well with the alumni.
  8. Cannot see any circumstance that will compel EC to change their style of play. I watched them play big, athletic teams in the Beach Ball Classic and they hung in there pretty good. Don't sell these kids short.
  9. Elliott County is a hard team to defend full court,or in a half court situation. Rare is the high school team that has all five starters shooting the three ball, and handling the ball to break down a press. AC may find a different set of Lions to deal with this time around. EC by 12.
  10. Thanks for the radio link MoShea. went to the game last night. I figured Lewis Co would get slaughtered.
  11. JPP,we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. With a 30pt lead and absolutely no chance of making a comeback, why would you risk injury to one of your stars to score style points? APB is not even close to being in EC's class. Let them press all they want. It doesn't matter in the end whether you win by 34,or 24. The idea is to win and advance. I want to see EC play on Saturday in Rupp. I don't want to see unnecessary risk taking.
  12. After seeing how Bath County really sent them into a tailspin with their press(why did Bath Co wait so long to press?), I think that EC will absolutely devastate LewisCo. with their relentless pressure. When EC turns up the "heat", they do it with a lot of passion and intelligence. Good "on ball" pressure with great help and passing lane fundamentals. I look for another rout.
  13. TruBlu, it would appear to me that EC was rubbing APB's nose in it a bit. I just think that Coach Mays needed to get his core players off the floor after the outcome was no longer in doubt. I agree that everybody here in the 16th should be proud of what EC has accomplished. I love watching them play. They do it the right way. Hard nosed defense, with an all out assault on offense.
  14. Thanks Wireman. Really enjoy watching EC. They looked sloppy tonight, but it seems as if they play to the level of their competition. I come down from Columbus to watch EC several times this year. They are a basketball junkies dream team. I would love to hear how some of the old timers compare them to some of the elite 16th Region teams of the past....
  15. With a 30pt lead into the 4th quarter,I was shocked to see 3 EC starters still in the game. Coach Mays was risking a lot when the game had been over since early in the 3d quarter. EC has bigger fish to fry than these weak 16th Region teams. He needs to get his priorities straight. I was waiting for a cheap shot late in that game with the outcome never in doubt....
