10 Good
  1. I agree with free enes, Pineville was a sloppy game no shots were falling and we lost the game by not rebounding and playing help defense. One game does not make a season, this team is as talented as any in the Region. However many players do not have game time experience. This team will develop as the season goes.
  2. Guard play looked good, this team has the talent to do well depending on whether they can hold it together without blowups, distractions and jealousy as in years past. Middleboro was not great but williamsburg went ahead and put them away early. Kevin Hoffman was a true point guard driving and distributing the basketball (great addition). Barton scored 30 plus points in 3 quarters looks much quicker and stronger. Smoak did a good job getting position and rebounding (works Hard). Jones has the potential to put up big numbers if he plays calm and his emotions don't get the best of him. Lowrey and Payne are solid players who just need to be consistent in their play. Defense seems more aggressive, hustling and diving for loose balls. This team has good potential but we will see!!
  3. Injuries have killed the Jackets! Losing Lowry the speedster back with big play capabilities on offense. Then losing the Barton kid was a huge loss, from how he perofrmed in the Jackson County scrimmage this year he appeared to be the go to guy for the jackets this season, Plus with him being the punter, kicker and return guy doesn't help. Then losing a big lineman and now last night the Jackets may have lost their fullback with a broke arm. (CRAZY FOR ONE TEAM)!! :ohbrother: I believe the Jackets will struggle the rest of the year, this is similar to what happend with Lynn Camp last year. Good luck and Get healthy Jackets!!.
  4. Best of luck to Lowrie on quick recovery. I agree with volfan, Barton looks to be the go to guy, blocked well, then went to receiver and made big plays, then destroyed runners on defense. If they use him, he could make a huge impact. Jackets have good talent, defense will need to improve. Petit will need to go both ways when season starts, he will have to be a force on both sides for Jackets to be sucessful. Cornerbacks need work. Hopefully Lowrie will be back before playoffs - Williamsburg will need his speed.
  5. He has the mindset to handle it. Last year he was 6-0 I believe. Beating Corbin, South, Whitley and (Middlesboro twice). This will teach him how to handle adversity with a inexperienced defense and not much hitting.
  6. I was there as well and Barton was taken out in the 4th inning with the score 3 to 1, You seem real defensive about M-boro, who has a descent squad, my point was they had only 4 hits in the first four innings which is accurate, they then scored the rest on conlin and moses. I thought the M-boro pitcher thru well.
  7. I would have to say that the first pitcher for Williamsburg shut down the Middlesboro sticks I think he only allowed 4 hits in 4 and half innings, the problem was Williamsburg continues to make fielding errors on routine plays and allow teams to steal every base ( no team should get 3 runs on 4 hits). After the first pitcher departed Middlesboro did kill the baseball with many shots to the fence scoring 13 more runs. Also Williamsburg has no offense at this time. Good win for Middlesboro - Williamsburg need to shake things up.
  8. There was an 8th grader for Williamsbug that I read about and watched who went 7-0 last year beating South, Corbin and Middlesboro.
  9. I thought Frankfort did a good job on the passing game, Williamsburg was probably 18 for 80 passing, Frankfort had on interception they dropped and came back a few plays later and got an interception. Williamsburg only looks for 2 recievers this will end up hurting them as the season goes on. They look to pass to Brock and Brown. Pettite was split out with his receiver 10 yards from the line of scrimmage and his first step was back, I thought they should have stood straight up and thrown to him until the Defensive back decided to join the game. Most passes were for 10 yards and then yards came after the catch by Brock. The running game was really non existany by the runningbacks one carry for about 45 yards the rest was for a loss. Most yards came by a very quick QB from pressure he was getting. Jackets are very talented and need to use all the tools thay have and get a little more discipline, (player charging the field and penalties). All in all I see the Jackets have an outstanding year when they come together and start looking at all options.
  10. If you want to talk movies then look at the movie the Pistol, The coach would not play Pete Maravich because he was a young skinny 8th grader, but later did and won - with his own son (The Coaches) quitting the team. I am not saying there are any Pistols or great players, out for Williamsburg, but a movie is a movie. REAL SITUATION: This will make some people mad, but life goes on. Williamsburg is not committed to getting better in Basketball, that is obvious, I have watched this team loose over and over and make no corrections. I have seen the coach turn his back while getting beat and go stand at the water cooler with the game going on, I have seen him sit down and quit coaching long before the end of the game with his head in his hands. He was put into a position way before he was ready, He does not understand the X's and O's of the game YET. That is not his fault. Everyone says that it will get better I do not see this, Last year was worse than the year before! As far as the kids are concerned if a kid isnt happy he shouldnt play, but I believe that a coach needs to have a relationship with each player and work to keep players on his team, (because these are kids we are talking about) If a kid is a disruption that is a different story. However the kids mentioned above are all good student athletes with no history of problems. EVERYONE CAN HOPE THAT THIS COMMUNITY CAN GET TOGETHER AND START A BASKETBALL PROGRAM!!!
  11. I agree with Phinn. No one wants to talk basketball when williamsburg loses, however if they get another win, you will see plenty of posts. You are right not everyone that posts on this site is an upset parent.
  12. No Rome was not built in a day. Ever heard when in ROME DO AS THE ROMANS??? Related to williamsburg basketball that would be losing is okay. My last Quote, This was not written to hurt or offend anyone, it was written for people to see that this program needs help. I hope they get it. Every team deserves an opportunity to WIN. I hope No one has gotten their feelings hurt. (Sometimes the truth does hurt) I would love to see the Kids do well and compete in a tough district.
  13. I commend you on having the courage to admit that you are responsible for the woes of this program. However your statement is from emotion as well, you are directly involved with the program and your instinct is to defend. I did not Question Coach Robinson reputation only the programs ability to win and that it needs help. I am sure Coach Robinson is a fine person. Fine people need help also. He was hired to coach and win I assume. I hope he is getting the help that this team really needs, no matter where it is from. THE KIDS SURE NEED THE HELP!
  14. Again, You are basing entire seasons on 1 game. B-ville. As I stated earlier, good win. BUT, it does not make a season or mean anything has changed, the game before Williamsburg was a blow out by a down Harlan team. Everyone can say it will come in time, however you have to be just as intense about the losses as you are about the every now and then wins to get better. I see no posts by W-burg fans unless they get a win. Everything is okay attitude - Time will tell, manure will smell and water will seek its own level. Winning isnt everything it is the only thing!!!!
  15. Thank you ramblinman, I do understand that football has coaches that are not paid, I also know that Coach Robinson was offered Free Help and declined. I am only an observer and hope that Williamsburg is succesful in all endeavors. This is my first ever post, and will probably be my last.:walk:
