I hadn't gotten word about Bonne somehow...yes, he makes W-V a different team entirely.

8th Region Week 7 Review Ė A Wild Finish is Shaping Up OK, we have 8-10 games left in the regular season, but this season quickly became the helter-skelter, topsy-turvey, coin-toss of a region I predicted in the Season Preview. Iím not bragging about my great prediction abilities Ė no, I think my three cats could have correctly predicted that it was going to take a long time for a true favorite to step up. Of course, thatís assuming...

Where Spencer is NOW is probably nowhere near where they will be at the END of the regular season. Granted, only about 8-9 games remain, but Spencer has an extremely talented starting five and they are young. Their growth curve is - and will continue to be for a while - a much tougher, but faster, climb upwards than most teams. If they can get some production from the young man who was injured in the KOB, it will help a lot, as the...

I understand your points, Cardsrule, but I think you actually are reinforcing my concerns. I think Spencer has the ability to beat 90% of the teams in the region this year....but I think the question marks all relate to the depth issue. If depth continues to be an issue, "dead legs" will likely be a concern later, especially come tournament time. I agree with you that this team is a better shooting team than the numbers imply; but the...

Without a doubt, the most exciting game I've seen this year, featuring good shooting from both teams, a Herculean effort for Luke Morrison in a loss (I'll say it again, this kid has to be one of the top 3 candidates currently for player of the year in the 8th), and a tremendous resilience from both - Oldham fighting the battle despite foul issues and South continuously battling back from deficits. Oldham took the lead for good at 22-20 when...

North has a new coach that was hired one week before the practices began. They are still getting used to him, and his style - he's completely revamped the defense, especially. As a result, the Mustangs' record is extremely deceptive. They lost to Ballard by just 2 points, and it was a one possession game against Waggener heading into the final minute of play. On the other hand, they lost to Trimble County - ending a 17 game winning...

The 8th Region wrapped up Week number 6 last week, and we finally starting getting some hints – not answers, mind you, just hints – of which way this season is going. Top-ranked Collins knocked off two dark-horse candidates for the region title, and they did it in convincing fashion…Simon Kenton knocked off Walton-Verona, ranked #2 in the region last week…SK also got another quality win over an out of region team. South Oldham extended their...

Right now, it's hard to think of another team in the 8th that's more improved than Carroll. Kudos to the Panthers for how far they've come and kudos to Gallatin for the win. Wish I'd seen this game. CM

The last week of the calendar year is typically when teams head off to some out of town place for three days of tournament competition. It's a great environment, a tremendous opportunity to pick up a trophy or two, and a chance to build friendships and memories. But if winning proves elusive, then sometimes it's not so much fun. Last year, the 8th Region teams truly enjoyed the tournaments in the final two weeks of the season....

Many thanks for your patience this week....since the Week 5 write-up will come out on Monday, I will keep this week's recap short..... Compared to last year, there's been a shortage of quality wins over ranked opponents outside the region so far. But much can change - the season is long - and the battles within the region suggest a "battle royale" in New Castle come March. This recap reviews the game's played 12/17 - 12/22 and the...

Have to agree to the general point being made here, as the officiating wasn't necessarily always bad, but it was always inconsistent. Sometimes it seemed as if I was watching an MMA brawl; other times, it seemed a mere brush against a player earned a foul. We (on the broadcast) kept finding ourselves befuddled by the calls. However, on the last call - and I know some will call me a "homer" here, but those who've listened to me a little...

Final from Buckner. Coomer misses a three at the buzzer that would have won it for the Cats. Steven Votaw gave Oldham the winning points by hitting 2 FTs with 2.9 seconds to play - his only points of the game.

Not taking a single thing away from Niece - he's simply an extraordinary player... but there are several more reasons, in my opinion, as a guy who usually sees SK only 2-3 times a year, why this SK team is far more dangerous than the ones I've seen in a long time. The coaching staff, for one, has done a remarkable job. CM

Correct. Typo on my part. Gotta slow down when I type. (However, Trimble did not play South, they played at North.)

North might be a contender, but Powell will not be eligible this year. He can practice with the team this year, but cannot play until 2019-2020. CM

The 8th Region saw a week of craziness this past week. As I promised you in the preseason rankings, I expected significant movement among many teams this year - and this year's third ranking reflects that. Sometimes, multiple "upsets" (and we could debate how many of the games I've highlighted, below, were true upsets, and how many weren't.) leave you with a poll that isn't changed much. But there is some movement this week, although there...
