  1. Honestly I think that MCHS could have a program which could compete on a semi regular basis if the basketball coach would share athletes on a more regular basis. The admin needs to understand there is more than lip service when it comes to support.
  2. If they hurry this will be over before dark....and they can save money on the lighting bill......Corbin Big
  3. Actually, more accurately you could say your opinion is no more biased than Mr. Hyden. He is obviously a SHS fan. No problem seeing that, but reporting should be unbiased and without passion, that is why they call it reporting, what he gave was an opinion and it was his opinion, and should have been expressed in a sports column, not like it was fact. "The assertion or statement of a thing done or existing; sometimes, even when false, improperly put, by a transfer of meaning, for the thing done, or supposed to be done; a thing supposed or asserted to be done; as, history abounds with false facts."
  4. No this is just reporting, no opinions, no bias, no whining. Bottom line, Somerset could have and honestly should have won the game, they had the lead and all they had to do was stop Whitley County on ONE drive. They could not, period end of story, end of game. I don't see you complaining about the late hits, and cheap shots that were taken by SHS during the game. One of which led to a WC player being unable to play this week due to concussion, and one to a hyper extended elbow. Or the head slaps on the last offensive play by Somerset. Certainly, the crew that called the game was not perfect, no where near it. But I think that Whitley could give you just as many examples of how bad it really was, fact is they were inept. Somerset had the lead and 85 yards of field to defend and they could not, Somerset complained about the late hit which aided the last drive, but Whitley had the same complaint about the personal foul on #10 for tackling out of bounds, he engaged the player inbounds but finished out of bounds, just like what Somerset is saying who is right? Well in this case they both probably are, but it was at a more critical point in the game for Somerset. And THEY still had the chance to stop the Colonels but they could not.....4th and about 7.....Whitley picks up 15, did an official make any blocks on that one? Did an official catch the ball for the Whitley receiver? NO! Did an official run the ball down the throat of the Somerset defense? No Boston Bryant did...LOL. Time to stop the whining and move on to the next game.
  5. Didn't you think MC would win 8 games.......you better rethink that one along with calls you are talking about!!!
  6. Honestly if you don't know about it, then why bring it up????
  7. Not to be disrespectful but I really don't know what game you were watching if you thought that Somerset outplayed Whitley County most of the night. In the first quarter Whitley had 17 offensive plays, Somerset had 3 (three, III). Whitley had 20 first downs Somerset had 9 (nine, IX) Boston Bryant had 179 yards rushing, Somerset had something in the neighborhood of 140 AS A TEAM. Somerset had a great drive with the last meaningful possession but when it came time to make plays with the game on the line, it was Whitley making plays; diving tackle by Ysidro to stop a TD, penalties at critical times by SHS. The tipped pass by the DB to end the SHS threat. Then there was the last drive and 4th down play, then the reverse pass and catch, the Boss Bryant forcing his will on multiple SHS defenders to get into the endzone, without the help of the officials blocking for him. No I think it is safe to say WCHS outplayed SHS, and actually could have put them away early if their offense had not sputtered in the second quarter. Whitley executed a nice game plan by playing keep away and it worked. Somerset has a great bunch of athletes and Whitley knew they had to keep the ball out of their hands. You are right as to not get into the officiating. But I will....they were inept!!!!! They missed calls on both side of the ball, and I have watched the film several times and every TD called back was a legit call. Officials don't throw flags to call back TDs, they call them back because they saw (real or imaginary) rules infraction. But lets face facts, Whitley had some bad calls or non-calls too. The best TEAM won. Somerset without a doubt has more and better athletes but Whitley has a better TEAM!!! The sum of the parts are much better than the individuals standing alone.
  8. Actually Whitley split with PCC, they beat them by 6 or 7 in a tourny. When parents are on a coaches back constantly it undermines the ability of any coach to properly coach his team.
  9. You can only make your team better by playing good teams, and there is no doubt that Bell is a good team, most likely the best team on the Colonels schedule. Coach Jim Black has always played a challenging schedule and trys to make his team better as the season goes on. This season Whitley has a challenging schedule again, and will have to improve each and every game to have an opportunity to advance in the playoffs regardless of what their seed is. My one question is................................Is it football season yet?????
  10. I can tell you with 100% accuracy...there is no count down board in the weight room, locker room or even in the rest room.....
  11. Game is great close to the season. Week after the State Championships, in a great location, at a great facility. The people at X did a great job hosting. Game organizers made the expeirence a great event for the kids. Hats off to all who made this game possible, great end to the Kentucky high school football season!
  12. I think that Paul Rains would be a great replacement, but I would not want to be the coach who followed Coach Hilton. He is a class act who has had great success everywhere he has been. He will be a tough act to follow. Many of the names listed on the list above are already at successful or building successful programs and may not want to leave those situations. Paul Rains is from Williamsburg and wants to be closer to his family, and does not have a coach job right now but does have a great resume.
  13. Records and stats don't lie......Football with Watts and Football without Watts=Day and Night. At some point you have to realize just how much he meant to your programs, not in just on field stuff the other stuff to including but not limited to leadership and grit.
  14. Whitley will run if they get the chance and last night they did turning South over several times and getting easy buckets out of it. They play tough half court defense and can press but mainly sit back and play half court defense. Although the final score was a 10 point margin, Whitley was leading by 19 with 1:51 to go in the game. South made a couple of threes late and had an "and one" situation which they converted. Goins (#3) off the bench gave the Colonels a lift and Akins (#12) did a good job with some big buckets at key times. Harris (#14) was steady throughout the game and South had no answer for him, all in all a good win for the Colones giving themselves a step up in the district.
  15. When Whitley county hosted Highlands in 2008 their fans showed our kids great respect as the seniors made the "Final Lap." Harlan County fans were also very sportsman like in our previous meetings. But lets face it, the fans will have little input on the GAME! Kids will decide the final outcome. I would like to see Harlan win since they eliminated Whitley County but I think that the Bluebirds will get them. The Field conditions two years ago were terrible, but they were terrible on both sides of the ball and Highlands never missed a beat. Sometimes I think they are like the U.S. Postal Service...neither rain nor snow nor dark of night....yada, yada,yada....you get the point. Highlands 38 Harlan County
