  1. Impressive win. Looks like things are coming together well for Raceland, as I figured they would!
  2. My thoughts and analysis of the game: Bottom line, JC came well-prepared and focused. I mentioned in the pre-game thread that this would be the JC team everyone expected to see this year. JC started the game off with the ball and J.J. Jude busted off about a fifty yard run for a score. JC converted the two point conversion. Ashland got the ball and got an illegal shift penalty on their first play (Remember, I mentioned that penalities were a problem for this team in the pregame thread), throwing them out of sync. After Ashland punted, the Quarterback for JC , #5 (J.K. Hall?) scored on a long run to make it 14-0, and 16-0 after the two point conversion. Ashland drove the field and scored to cut the lead to ten but JC made a big play off of a deep pass to J.J. Jude to set up a score to make the lead 22-6. Ashland had a chance to score before halftime, getting to JC's three yard line, but was unable to punch it in. Ashland came out more focused in the second half, scoring 22 straight points to take the lead at 28-22. After not turning the ball over in the first half, JC turned the ball over three or four times by fumbling, giving Ashland plenty of momentum. Ashland had a chance to open the game but didn't convert on a crucial fourth and two, giving the ball back to JC for their game winning drive. Even after J.C. scored to make it 29-28, Ashland had a chance to drive the field but ended up turning it over on downs. As for my thoughts on JC, they have an excellent playmaker in J.J. Jude. He reminds me a lot of Thomas Varney of Belfry. He's very quick and one mistake against him could lead to a big play. To go along with his running ability, he catches the ball well. JC had a better passing game than expected. If they cut back on the fumbles, I expect them to play much better than in their previous games. The win tonight will give them plenty of confidence in their upcoming games. Ashland looked more in tune offensively in the second half. They ran the ball more and while that went well, there were too many dropped passes, so many I lost count. I can think of three times during the game that we fumbled a snap on offense, but we were lucky enough to recover them. Defensively, we locked down better in the second half and prevented the huge plays, but the one drive in the fourth quarter was all it took for JC to seal the game. We performed well in some areas but we've played better overall games this year. Going 10-0 would have been remarkable but it's hard for any team to do. I'm confident that Ashland will make the needed adjustments and will learn something from this loss. Keep your heads up Tomcats!
  3. :thumb: I hope it turns out that way too, and good luck to your Rams!
  4. Rams, it will be interesting to see what happens with Johnson Central. Sometimes it takes longer for teams to come around. With the talent this Johnson Central team returns from last year they still have the ability to be very good. They may not have played to the level expected so far but they had a good opportunity to regroup during the open week. Either way, it will be an exciting matchup and I look forward to watching these two teams play.
  5. The posts above give a good idea as to how the scrimage against Campbell County went. I believe the final score was Ashland losing 41-0 against what seems like a quality Campbell County team, but looking at how we have played since one can say that the scrimage paid off tremendously. Having played four power running teams so far (Greenup, Belfry, Russell, and Ironton) I think the experience from those games will help against JC. I was concerned with the size of our lines at the beginning but after seeing us beat Belfry, and especially Ironton (who has a huge line) I feel better about that. One area of concern with this team is penalties. I don't know our exact penalty yardage but the past three games Ashland had several false starts and holding penalties that either slowed or killed drives down the field. That must be fixed against Johnson Central, and I'm confident that Coach Hart and his staff will have the Tomcats well prepared. Again, I think we'll be in for a great game atmosphere next week. Can't wait!
  6. Mason County is loaded this year and like Lewis County is taking steps in the right direction to becoming a solid football program. Lewis County plays hard but I doubt they will be able to pull it out. Mason wins big.
  7. Raceland starts the district off with a big win. I don't know much about Raceland's team except for a few players and do know that getting Barr back should help them. Are there any other key players that are injured right now?
  8. JC may not have played up to expectations so far, but I believe when Ashland plays them we'll see the JC team everyone expected to see this year. This will be a tough game for Ashland but I expect them to be well prepared and ready to avenge the big loss JC handed them at Putnam last year. I look forward to a great game atmosphere!
  9. :thumb: Sam made some excellent reads out there. At times the Waverly secondary had our receivers well covered and Sam ran the ball for some huge gains on the ground. I'm curious as to how many rushing yards he had. I would say he had around 100 or so passing. Graybeard, like you said, it is exciting knowing that he is only a sophomore!
  10. Ashland came into this game well prepared. Waverly threw an interception deep in their own territory to start the game. Ashland took advantage of the great position off of it, scored, and never looked back the rest of the game. Alber and Rogers both ran the ball well, and Sam Hunter had some nice runs and passes, including a 65 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Whetsel. The defense played well. Two of Waverly's three scores were on big plays. The quarterback for Waverly didn't have a great deal of talent around him, but if he gets loose he can be very, very dangerous. Ashland did a good job of keeping him in check. Good win Tomcats. Now on to Johnson Central!
  11. Great win Highlands. Way to represent the state! :thumb:
  12. The Rams played well last week against East Carter and I think this will be the point where everything comes together and they start to play some really good football. Raceland rolls this week and they will be a solid team in their district.
  13. He is listed as a 3-star prospect and is committed to play college football for Toledo. According to the list I'm seeing he's ranked sixth in Ohio but rankings could vary.
  14. Derek Roback, the quarterback for Waverly is very impressive. He has a great throwing arm. He's also lightning quick and capable of taking over a game by himself. We will have to do a good job of keeping him contained. I think Coach Hart will have the Tomcats well prepared for this team and Ashland will continue to roll.
