  1. Was told this morning that RB/LB/DE Tyrrell Willis from Calloway County was at UT today. Could the Vols be trying to steal another KY stud?
  2. The KHSBCA has posted the 2009 All-State teams as selected by the coaches. http://www.khsbca.com
  3. Oops, correction. Relooked at Fosko's blog and it said Brockman had 21 extra base hits in 94 AT-BATS. Sorry for the misquote. Working backwards that means Brockman probably had about 53 hits. So his slg pctg was probably way up there too with 21 extra base hits.
  4. Have seen some of the POYs named on here and know the First Region honorees. Anyone have a list of who is POY in each region, and the seniors going to East-West Baseball Game on June 21 in Lexington? I believe each region gets two players. According to Joey Fosko's Paducah Sun blog the Region 1 POY was Casey Brockman from Calloway Co. (.564, 21 extra base hits in 91 hits). Tyler Johnson from Marshall Co. was runner-up. They will both be playing in Lexington. Please share the other seniors.
  5. Willis highlights shows he's in the mix, for sure. Unbelievably good lateral moves for 250 lb RB and has tremendous hands. Watch him run over or around defenders. Will be a tremendous college player at either RB, DE or LB.
  6. Western end of the state candidates - Marshall Co's Tyler Johnson and Calloway Co's Casey Brockman. I'm told both are hitting over .500 and both are very effective pitchers for their teams. Johnson is 3B/P for a loaded Marshals team. Brockman plays everywhere for a short-handed Lakers team and doesn't get much protection in the lineup. But, Jackson Purchase area players usually get the Rodney Dangerfield treatment anyway. Both deserve consideration.
  7. Several options. Jordan Burkeen is the senior in waiting. Willis could get wind up at QB, a move that would not be good in my opinion. Senior Austin Hargrove could be in the mix. Sophomore-to-be Garrett Cowen got some JV snaps too last year. The X factor would be Ryan Kelly, a 6-4 transfer from Murray who will be a sophomore, an outstanding athlete with a big arm but has not played in a while yet loves to compete and has the smarts to run the offense. It will be interesting. And, some talented receivers remain on the team to keep defenses honest from keying on Willis.
  8. With Tyrrell Willis and the majority of the OL and DL back, the Lakers will still be a tough out. I think they will take the district. A new QB has to emerge to lead. How far they go after district will be determined by how much they improve during the season. Word is that Willis and OL Grant Williams have already been offered by Memphis.
  9. Three of the region's top six teams reside in the same district with Marshall, Calloway and Murray. Ballard can be a force, but losing Shelley hurt them. Lone Oak should also be a factor. Graves and a surprise in Reidland should also figure in the mix. Pretty much the same story year in and out, except Heath's run is over, for sure. Marshall is the clear early favorite.
  10. There is also a West KY vs. So. IL game that has been played for 4-5 years now. It will be in June. The game alternates between KY and IL sites. This year it's at SIU, I think.
  11. Calloway County QB Casey Brockman committed to Murray State today and accepted the invite as a preferred walk-on. He turned down other D2 and NAIA offers. His older brother also plays for the Racers and that probably influenced the decision. Checking the MSU roster it looks like a good situation in his own backyard since the other QBs are juniors and a senior.
  12. I saw this question raised elsewhere and was curious as well. Does anyone know when this summer's East-West All-Star rosters will be announced?
  13. Great post, but what stands out to me here is the pathetic school system you were in. As a husband of a longtime guidance counselor and former special ed teacher, I know the system is required to diagnose and address the needs of students who do need help. My wife has taught in five different systems in KY in various parts of the state and I think all of them would have been able to serve your kids well in the classroom and then the athletic part would have taken care of itself. It's unfortunate that you have had to live in an area with an unserving public school system.

  15. Ky wins 26-20. Guiduili named overall MVP. Just watched part of the last quarter so don't know the particulars. Nice to be able to see it. Thanks.
