  1. Jock Strap...lol...Here is a simple comparison to your statement.... Kyle Macy was an excellant point guard, one of the very best, but when hired as a coach, well he was not a player anymore was he? His coaching was the worst in Morehead history. Just because you can play, doesn't mean you can coach. When Kyle Macy played, he had a supporting cast of big guys ie...Rick Robey, Jack Givens, Mike Phillips. I remember the headline from the 78' NCAA Tourney... "Can the Magic, hex the Muscle?" Refering to Magic Johnson vs. the 3 previous mentioned players. Even as Kyle Macy coached he understood the need for big and powerful players, unfortunately Davey Wooten does not. My statement of 5 Davey Clones, 5 small point guards to be exact, is not a concept that would work in the 16th region or likely any region. I graduated from Boyd, was long time Boyd fan, and wanted only the best for Boyd, but... until "house" is cleaned, no good is happening at Boyd.
  2. Sorry Jock Strap, lol, one "Davey" could play 20 years ago, but one "Davey" does not win against another team, it takes team play to win. Focus on the word "could", times have changed, and players are alot bigger than they were "back in the day". Every team around here utilizes a big man, except Boyd. Davey is now the coach, so he is not out there playing, is he? He is coaching. I said 5 Davey clones, a clone is not the real thing.
  3. I hate hearing this. Hope everything is okay for Rex and his family. Rex Cooksey always was a good, caring, honest, and fair coach.
  4. It wont be time to talk baseball until Feburary 15th. As far as throwing either football or basketball under the bus, nope, sorry that wasn't me, that was the excellant coaching staff's and their decisions to cater to theirselves and a few select parents, instead of doing what was best for the school and the teams. Yes, you are right, many Boyd fans have "left the jungle", and many more are leaving daily.
  5. I have been told that there is only 35 from Freshman thru Seniors that have shown up for practices. Some say it's because the basketball coaches won't allow their players to play both sports where as others say, that last years coaching left a bad taste in their mouths. I have heard several say that because of Coach Evans coaching or lack of, during the All Star Game, along with his avoidance to get a new line coach, ie... Coach Pennington, that their season will not be near what it has been since two to three years ago. They may have won the district last year, but that will not happen again this year or for many years to come. The Boyd County Lions have "left the jungle". :idunno:
  6. Unless someone comes in and cleans house, the only players on the floor will be 5 little Davey Wooten clones. Unfortunately, a Davey Wooten clone will not be able to win in this district. Boyd has already told their basketball players that if you want to play basketball, you will quit football. Some listened and quit, including the only double digit player that was left from last years team. The Boyd County Lions have literally "left the jungle". :idunno:
  7. You know, I was the first person to congratulate Coach Wooten, now as this season has became what it has.... I would like to be the first to again congratulate Coach Wooten, but this time for making Boyd County basketball the laughing stock of the 16th region. Coach Wooten, I hope you are proud of what our basketball program has become, you managed to run off the best senior players, Wilson, Messer, Steele, and Hall along with a few other good players, these boys have been on the team and played together with the exception of Hall, since 7th grade. You had good players, but refused to play them, and now you wonder why all of the Senior players left. Some of those boys lived for basketball season, and now they have a bad taste in their mouths because of playing / sitting the bench for you. Everyone of the boys who quit, were told by their parents NOT to quit, but to stay for the sake of the team and to finish out their senior year, but after being the laughing stock of the 16th region, each decided on their own to prepare for their future and move on with their lives. Coach Wooten, I hope you are proud of the outcome of this season, and the role you played in the lives of these players. It's too late for this years team, but hopefully you will learn from this year, and not make the same mistakes twice.
  8. Actually, Messer was the leading scorer with 16. Hall had 10. When they give Messer the chance to be on the floor he scores well, unfortunately because of the current situation at County, Messer rarely sees the floor and when he does it's only for a minute or two.
  9. On the Boyd side there are way too many "I's" in the "team", and furthermore whats going on with a system that has there only "true" center sitting on the bench? It will be a dreadfully long season if this system doesn't remember to play as a team and run the positions guard through center as they are intended to be played.
  10. It is out today....copy included in each Saturday Independent. Unfortunately, some teams do not have a complete team line up or team picture because of the several schools that were still in football playoffs at the time it was created.
  11. Former Boyd star Wooten new coach By ROCKY STANLEY / The Independent CANNONSBURG — Thirty-five years ago, a smallish point guard with floppy hair and floppy socks directed Boyd County High School to its first regional basketball championship. Dave Wooten’s heart never left the court. He continues to play the game with vigor and has coached off and on for Boyd County at the middle school and freshman levels http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_221233040.html :dancingpa
  12. It's official! Congrats to Coach Wooten! http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_221233040.html :dancingpa
  13. I believe you are talking about Zack Messer. He is around 6'8" - 6'9" and is about 300 lbs. He's their nose guard and I heard he is getting some looks from some colleges.
  14. Sometimes a player can not help that his shirt comes untucked frequently. Take this situation: The player is a big guy, say in the 6'9'' range, and his jersey is way too short to be tucked in all the time, due to the fact the jersey is modeled on a say, 6'3' type body. Sure, the school could order him a bigger jersey (99.9% of schools won't), or the referee could understand the situation the player is facing, and realize therefore, then cut the player some slack. Most of the time the large sized player is repeated warned and warned again, even after repeated retucking, trying to keep the jersey tucked in. The untucked jersey is not the players fault on purpose, but the harrassment by the referee is. I say , if the untucked jersey is not the players fault in respect to his size, leave it alone, but if the untucked jersey is purposely done by a player, then it should be addressed.
  15. There is 6 football players on Boyd's team, and they have yet to forget what happened with Greenup this past November. Let's just say Boyd by BIG numbers! :fight::madman::fight:
