To start with, I don't do these rankings. There is a group of people that do a tremendous job in ranking teams from all over the state and they are people that watch these teams in person and on video and put in a tremendous amount of time to make sure this product is better then most. For the topic at hand, yes Highlands had a great game versus Covington Catholic and has got everyone's attention. But, that game does not change the entire...

Class 6A It has been a very long time since a Lexington public school was at the top of the 6A rankings. Male could not retain their status of King of the Hill against St. Xavier, opening up the opportunity for Frederick Douglass to move to the catbird seat. The Broncos now get a Henry Clay team who would love to prove they are still the gold standard in Fayette County. St. Xavier has to think they have their own claim to stake, but before...

Class 5A Covington Catholic's margin of victory keeps shrinking as their schedule gets closer to November, but the Colonels extended the state’s longest active win-streak by outlasting Highlands. Bowling Green was humbled when they were completely over-matched by Warren Central, Indiana. The Purples had better hope there is no hangover from such a beating as South Warren would love nothing more than to celebrate their second consecutive win...

Class 4A This past week seemingly served as the under card for Class 4A's main event. Franklin County proved they are a team worth knowing by blacking out the Panthers from Knox Central in a battle of two possible district champions. The Fliers wrap up district play against a North Oldham team who would love to make a statement of their own. Logan County's defense did their part, but in the end Madisonville was just a little bit better as...

Class 3A The two top teams in the rankings each got challenges from their top rivals in their district. Both passed their tests in resounding fashion. Corbin broke Bell's spirit late in the second half and now only need to take down one-loss Casey County to claim anotherdistrict Championship. Boyle County made a statement from the start and dominated Lexington Catholic in every capacity. The Rebels will lock down their own title if they can...

Class 2A It Game, Somer-set, Match in District in Class 2A's most competitive district. The Briarjumpers polished off a district title by shutting out Lexington Christian and now become one of the favorites to reach the semi-finals. There are still fireworks left in District 7, as Danville and Lexington Christian will battle for the 2-seed and the all important homefield playoff game. Newport Central Catholic made a statement by handling...

Class 1A Paintsville needed everything they had to withstand a late charge from Hazard after building a big lead in a battle of Top 5 wins last week. The Tigers will need to put two strong halves together if they hope to take down Raceland up by the Ohio River. Lynn Camp kept their undefeated dreams alive with a convincing win over Harlan. The Wildcats now face the biggest hurdle of the season when they host Williamsburg with the district...

The Cooksey's are viewed pretty well. They are pretty good people who are known to do what is needed to help their school and community. Normally, when Fairview is having trouble, they call Rex to take something over. He has literally coached about every sport Fairview has: Boys Basketball, Girls basketball, Football, Baseball and I think he even coached golf one time. Softball may be the only sport he hasn't coached. He's also been the...

What we should do is have people from all over the state that watch teams in person and by film and keep track of all the teams in the state vote and publish their findings as a way to rank teams. Oh wait, we already do that - The BluegrassPreps Rankings.

No offense, but that is always the excuse for these things. We all know who the good teams are after the season is finished.
