Ashland's best win is probably against Raceland, as you said, but they also beat a Russell team that was ranked at the time and played one of West Virginia's best team to a one score loss. They also beat a historically strong Ironton Ohio team. Bourbon did beat Somerset in the first week of the season, but only beat a Rowan County team by one score that is having a lot of problems this season.

BluegrassPreps does not rank teams based on records, teams are ranked on performance. If you want Rankings based on records, take a look at other rankings, that is one of the biggest problems with rankings performed by other sources. Here are the Top 10 teams in Class 4A based on record: Class: 4A Win-Loss Records

Class 6A Trinity hosted Champagnat, a team from South Florida that was feeling the after effects from Hurricane Irma. Supporters of the Shamrocks may have felt that Trinity was being a bit too hospitable as they let the smaller school hang around for longer than expected before distancing themselves late for a nice win. The biggest showdown of the week will be a battle to see who is #2 as St. Xavier and Pleasure Ridge Park will face off in a...

Class 5A If nothing else, Covington Catholic flexed their muscle as one of the top teams in Northern Kentucky by crushing the top ranked team in Class 1A Beechwood. The Colonels want something more than just regional respect, they have a chance to do the Bluegrass State proud if they can knock off an elite program from Ohio in Desales out of Columbus. South Oldham makes the most noticeable jump this week as they enter the Top 5 following...

Class 4A Johnson Central is starting to pull away from the field after both Wayne County and Collins took substantial losses to Boyle County in successive weeks. Undefeated Rockcastle County is starting to garner some buzz as the next potential team in line, as they are the only other undefeated team in the Top 10, but they will need to validate that momentum against a stout Somerset defense. Class 4A does have another surprising undefeated...

Class 3A Boyle County is starting to garner some buzz. The Rebels smoked a Top 3 ranked 4A team for the second consecutive week by making short work of Collins, and are a considerable favorite against 6A foe North Hardin. Corbin had an extra week to prepare for their neutral site clash with Mayfield, which is typically a back and forth war that does not appear to change for the and 2017 edition. Any time you can knock off Highlands is a nice...

Class 2A No game in the State of Kentucky turned heads more than Christian Academy- Louisville falling to Newport Central Catholic. Danville opened the season as the top ranked team and now regains their seat at the front of the class after surviving a scare of their own against 3A Waggener. DeSales came very close to being the #1 ranked team after a hard fought win over a ranked 5A Fern Creek and will go on the road to take on a solid...

Class 1A Beechwood was proven to not be immortal as they tasted defeat for their first time against Class 5A's top ranked team, Covington Catholic. The Tigers remain the top team, but now the rest of the small schools have new hopes that they may be able to reel in Beechwood. Kentucky Country Day makes a move up to the #2 spot and will have a chance to make a huge statement against an undefeated Class 2A Lexington Christian Academy....

I agree completely. They deserve some success after the difficulty those schools have had in the past. I remember playing Allen Central and Wheelright back in the day. It was always a struggle for those programs.

That's a nice looking Top 10. Corbin/Mayfield is going to be a good game.

8 ppg or 5 ppg, Covington Catholic's defense is pretty good. How many points do we expect Beechwood to score on that defense?

Class 6A Trinity got a strong challenge by Male but the Shamrocks prevailed as expected, and will play yet another out of state foe as they host a Division 1 talent saturated foe from Florida (weather permitting). Scott County has started their own border run and fought valiantly before falling to Moeller (OH), and will face their second straight Greater Catholic League foe traveling to play LaSalle. Campbell County has been one of the most...

Class 5A It is safe to say the top two teams are starting to pull away from the field in Class 5A. Covington Catholic and Bowling Green each collected impressive victories and look to both be legit title contenders. Covington Catholic will step down in class to take on 1A #1 Beechwood, but will not necessarily be stepping down in competitiveness. The hottest team in Class 5A is South Warren. The Spartans continue to ascend the rankings as...

Class 4A Johnson Central is getting pretty good at defending the honor of the Bluegrass State as they have made it a habit to defeat teams from West Virginia. The Golden Eagles are also getting good at beating teams with lots of sheer athleticism, as they will face their 4th straight team with tons of speed at the skill positions as they travel to play Moore. Wayne County remains in the co-pilot position despite a convincing loss to 3A Boyle...

Class 3A The King of 3A just won't go away. Belfry retakes the top spot away from Corbin after a busy weekend in Northern Kentucky against a pair of small school traditional powers. The Pirates made short work of 2A Newport Central Catholic as the Pirates offense continued to post video game numbers, meanwhile Corbin could not hold off 1A Beechwood in a game that lived up to the hype. Corbin wasn't alone in defeat as Lexington Catholic,...

Class 2A It is almost becoming old news at this point: Class 2A's top five teams take on stiff competition, the Class 2A teams then leave the weekend remaining undefeated. Despite tough challenges for Christian Academy- Louisville, Danville, Mayfield, and Lexington Christian Academy, they went a combined 4-0 and turned heads doing it with each securing a double digit victory. DeSales took last week off, but will now get their obligatory test...

Class 1A All eyes were on the defending champions and the Beechwood Tigers put on a show. Beechwood downed 3A Corbin in one of Kentucky's premier early season small school clashes to secure their spot as Class 1A's top ranked team. The Tigers now set their sights on another #1 team in the form of 5A Covington Catholic. Hazard faced defeat for the first time as they fell to 2A Somerset. Paintsville, Williamsburg, and Raceland all secured...
