Class 6A Butler did what no one else could against Male this year. No, they did not beat the Bulldogs, no one might be able to do that, but they did at least hit double figures on the scoreboard. Butler must get back to the drawing board in a hurry as Manual will be no easy rebound. Trinity finally broke their 2018 maiden with a blowout win over Jeffersontown. The Shamrocks will now set their sights on a St. Xavier team who is equally eager...

Class 5A Covington Catholic continued their case to be recognized as the Best of the Bluegrass by beating perennial Ohio powerhouse, Columbus St. Francis de Sales going away. The Colonels' historic rival Highlands knows that judgement day is coming soon and made their move to build hype by staking their claim as Northern Kentucky's second best team by taking care of business against Simon Kenton. Two teams who know about geographical...

Class 4A It seems every week Class 4A is full of drama. Teams losing that were favored, teams that are underdogs who pull an unexpected result, and sometimes just pure chaos no one can explain. Last week was not one of those weeks. No team in the Top 10 finished the night with an extra tally in the loss column. Don't be surprised to see a similar outcome this week as district play offers some solidity. No team in the Top 10 has a ranked...

Class 3A Things nearly got wild in Class 3A last week. Boyle County was missing star Reese Smith and had to withstand a tough challenge from 6A North Hardin to remain perfect. Corbin bit off more than they could chew against 2A Mayfield and took one on the chin. Lexington Catholic equated themselves well but fell short against 2A DeSales. Central got a surprising scare from Henry County but still held serve. This week, don't expect any flare...

Class 2A Mayfield made a statement with a downright dominant performance as they took 3A Corbin to the woodshed across state lines. The Cardinals now look to do some housekeeping as they square off with Murray in what should amount to the District Championship game. DeSales got a nice challenge from Lexington Catholic but eventually prevailed. The Colts have one more challenge before District play begins and 6A North Hardin is no team to...

Class 1A Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. As Pikeville was hanging their heads over a heartbreaking loss to an out of state opponent, Raceland was celebrating a huge win over a competitor of their own. The Rams move up a spot in the rankings following their stellar win on Portsmouth West's field and will now set their sights on a stout 2A Somerset team. Pikeville can not linger on their...

Please keep in mind, when using abbreviations, although people in a certain area may know what they are, many from other areas of the state have no idea what team or event is being discussed.

Yet again, the rankings that say, "we know a lot more after the season is over". Yea, we all know more when the season is over.

I love the Fulton County story this year, but giving them first place votes shows some of the real problems with AP Rankings.

Given what we know about the AP Rankings, they probably don't realize South Oldham and Oldham County are two different schools. Incidentally, BluegrassPreps has Oldham County at #13. But, we will see come Friday.

Class 6A Trinity may be the first team to ever say "We are playing Jeffersontown at the perfect time". The Shamrocks fell to 0-5 with a loss to an Illinois foe and will welcome with open arms the chance to re-calibrate against public school competition from their own city. Another team who will be happy to keep it local will be Scott County who finished their swing of traditional powers from Greater Cincinnati Metro Area with a lopsided...

Class 5A The rankings for Class 5A may look a little familiar this week. All ten teams remain in the same position as last week after eight of the nine teams who played this week secured victories. The lone hold out was Apollo. The Eagles lost a heart-breaker to red hot 2A Owensboro Catholic. Speaking of the Owensboro area, the Red Devils of Owensboro hammered 6A Daviess County to keep their run of good football going. The two most impressive...

Class 4A Kentucky's version of the last wild frontier may very well be anything in Class 4A outside of the Top 5. Another wild week of games featured every team not named Wayne County losing in the 6-10 spots of last week's ranking. As a result, Taylor County makes their debut in the rankings. The Cardinals will try to avoid the losing curse against a formidable West Jessamine squad. Only two teams remain unblemished on the year. Ashland...

Class 3A Three of the Top 5 teams in 3A had a chance to make a statement with stern tests from ranked squads from other classes. Lexington Catholic faded down the stretch against 4A Highlands and Central came just a point short against 6A powerhouse St. Xavier. Belfry was the lone member of the triumvirate to come out in the win column. The Pirates got all they could handle from 1A Pikeville but survived for a nice road win. Lexington...

Class 2A Three of Class 2A's Top 5 teams will see stiff tests this week from Top 5 foes from higher classifications. Top-Ranked DeSales will travel to Lexington to take on the Lexington Catholic Knights, a team determined to put a better foot forward after losing last week. Glasgow will look for their first true signature win against 4A's second-ranked team Franklin-Simpson. Mayfield will have a team with the "#2" by their name as well when...

Class 1A With Pikeville's loss to 3A power Belfry only two teams remain undefeated in Class 1A, Fulton County and Lynn Camp. Lynn Cmap makes their Top 10 debut this week. Pikeville and top-ranked Beechwood stay put in their rankings while putting up valiant efforts against top-tier schools from larger classes. The Panthers will look to jump back on the winning side making the long trip to the home of the Mothman to take on a very strong Point...
