  1. Don Shields celebrated his 300th win tonight in Villa's game against Dayton. Just about the whole school plus past players turned out to celebrate the event. Don has created a very solid program at VMA. Not sure if people realize that the High School only has 80 girls yet the team is very competitive year after year. The program really does not get the recognition or respect it deserves. Don is a great role model for the girls and he truly has no ego. He didn't think anyone even knew that the 300th was coming up nor did he tell anyone. Everything is always all about the girls and never about himself. He represents the school and team with true class. Don sticks with his team year after year regardless of what he gets and the girls benefit from that consistency. He would do anything for them as coach, teacher or otherwise. Please join me in congratulating Coach Shields on a great achievement!
  2. Congratulations to Casey Jackson on reaching 1,500 points!!! It happened on January 10 against Boone County. Casey is the hardest working player (and probably the nicest) in NKY so its great to see her reach another of her goals. Looks like the Pandas have a great shot at the Region championship especially since Casey is back in action. Best of luck the rest of the season! Don't forget who your first coach was, Casey!
  3. IMO, teams should play as hard as possible until they build a comfortable lead where they know the game is in hand. In some cases, it may be a 30 point win. Villa Madonna recently came back from 33 points down in the third quarter to send a game into overtime. Ludlow is also not the only school posting wins this lopsided: many of the teams in DIII are just not very strong this year, and Villa has also had some pretty large wins. Ludlow is not at fault here; you have to do what needs to be done to secure the game.
  4. Villa doesn't play their best game but manages to hold on to the victory at the end after leading the entire game. Villa moves on to play NCC on Wednesday
  5. Villa pulls out the victory after leading the first half by as many as 15. They let Mason County back in, but managed to hold on for the win.
  6. Not to take anything away from NewCath, but lets remember that when you are comparing a NewCath to a Villa Madonna, NewCath has twice as many students as Villa. Villa does extremely well not just in basketball but in all of its sports given that the high school only enrolls less than 200 total (about 80 girls).
  7. Yes, it is a very well organized national golf tour. Most of the players who enter these events are serious college bound golfers and shoot 70's-80's. There are not a lot of girls in each event but those who play are quality golfers and they travel some distance to these events. You can accumulate points to qualify for an end of tour tournament and there are opportunities to post your profile on their website to be seen by college coaches. If your daughter is a serious golfer and you can afford the entry fees (its pretty expensive) I would recommend playing in as many Plantation events as possible.
  8. VMA was invited to play in the Queen of the Bluegrass tournament this year and Coach Shields thought that this would be a good opportunity for the girls. So VMA will not host the Holiday tournament this year but will bring it back in 2009.
  9. This was a very, very nice event. Thank you to whoever organizes this. It is very much appreciated by the girls and their parents.
  10. I agree - NDA is very awesome and I think they will win no problem.
  11. In addition to being a good basketball player, he is an outstanding student and a great young man. He was accepted to Notre Dame and plans to go there. Probably won't play basketball.
  12. This happened to us last year too (senior night game cancelled due to weather and no time to have a make up game). One of the parents had a nice party at their house for all players and families to try to replicate senior night and regognize the players. Not quite the same but it was alot of fun.
  13. Anyone know dates and times for the 34th District Tournament? Know the draw - VMA v. Ludlow, Dixie v. Lloyd but would like to know dates and game times.
  14. You are right - point guard is not Schroer's natural position but her team needs her there this year so that's where she plays. Remember there are only 80 girls in the entire high school. Villa has some young girls coming up who are quick and athletic so maybe next year she can return to a 2 or 3.
