Can't stand the sounds of people eating, including scraping silverware across the plate. My blood pressure goes up when someone opens a bag of chips or takes out a piece of gum.

Reuters is reporting the JCS says there will be no changes to the policy until they receive actual orders from the president. Other reports have said Mattis was angry over the president's tweets. So it certainly sounds like a well-crafted policy and not a half-baked stab at playing identity politics to assuage the Sessions loyalists.

Let's see, the Pentagon is no commenting on the Tweets and Sec. Mattis is on vacation. This doesn't sound like it was a particularly carefully thought out policy decision.

More today from the WSJ. On Sessions' being one of his first supporters: "It's not like a great loyal thing about the endorsement," Mr. Trump said in and interview with the Wall Street Journal. "I'm very disappointed in Jeff Sessions." On firing him over his recusal: "I'm just looking at it," the president said when asked how long he could continue to criticize Mr. Sessions without firing him. "I'll just see. It's a very important...

Apropos of nothing public, the president took to Twitter yesterday to criticize his "beleaguered" Attorney-General. I'm not sure what this accomplishes other than to force Sessions into resignation or lay the groundwork for firing him. (Sessions, you'll remember, was the only Senator to endorse Trump in the primary and obviously gave up his seat to serve as AG.) If he does rid himself of Sessions that will mark his most desperate attempt yet...

You must've gotten your wires crossed. There are 80 million Amazon Prime subscribers. Only 60 million people voted for Trump. Seriously though, Amazon is a giant company because it provides people with goods and services in a way that's better than their competitors and that people are willing to fork money over for. Isn't that capitalism? But, no, "conservatives" ought not to participate in this market without assurances that the company's...

Spicer became a national laughingstock with his tortured and surreal attempts at defending this president. It was a nearly impossible job (White House press briefings are now held off camera to preserve what little remains of Sarah Sanders dignity), and you almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

"Another potential conflict claim is an allegation that Mueller and Trump National Golf Club in Northern Virginia had a dispute over membership fees when Mueller resigned as a member in 2011, two White House advisers said. A spokesman for Mueller said there was no dispute when Mueller, who was FBI director at the time, left the club." This is a delusional level of desperation.

It's a wonder the president can't lead his party to unite behind a bill with such keen insight like this. "So preexisting conditions are a tough deal. Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, you're 21 years old, you start working and you're paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you're 70, you get a nice plan. Here's something where you walk up and say, 'I want my insurance.' It's a very tough deal, but it is...

Trump would have to fire Sessions and/or Rosenstein and Rachel Brand and whoever else along the chain of command to fire Mueller. I don't think he can get a replacement AG through confirmation under these circumstances. I think it would be an absolutely extraordinary thing for him to do and would drench him in the stench of obvious guilt. I wouldn't hold my breath, but it might even goad Republicans into reinstating the law creating...

Counted 60 but was pretty generous with books I didn't completely finish. I can probably add at least 10 more sitting on my bookshelf that I've never gotten around to. The classics were obvious even though they left some off (but still had multiple from the same author). The more modern selections seemed pretty random but were mostly good choices. Included a bunch of the stodgy books I suffered through or outright skipped in high school....

Yea, it's hard to see him not weaseling his way out of trouble, and I have a feeling he'll be a player for a while longer. But with Bran and the Hound near enough to Winterfell, some of LF's unfortunate secrets could get spilled to the wrong people.

Fine, Game of Thrones is a Golden Age show in the era of Peak TV. :D Seriously, I agree with the concept of Peak TV (I haven't watched Fargo or the Americans), but what could be less indicative of Peak TV than a show about ice zombies, dragons, and elaborate mythology consistently shattering all of HBO's viewership records?

Of course, I trust my own thinking, but confirmation bias is a real thing and I think it's important to seek out perspectives different from my own. There are smart, sincere, insightful people out there who don't share your point of view, and I think it's healthy to see their reasoning on different issues. It helps ward off the tendency to overlook evidence that doesn't align with your notions and gives you a better sense of the breadth of...

I think Ross Douthat, a conservative columnist (albeit unfavorable to Trump), hit this one on the head. A Conspiracy of Dunces - The New York Times And, almost on cue, we're finding out this meeting of four very bored people included a fifth participant. The almost Kryptonian-level aversion to the truth on display here is why I don't understand how anyone can take their explanations at face value any longer. As Douthat says "Here is a...

OG I appreciate your posts here and I think you make some good points. I might also agree that this meeting is being overblown if it happened in a vacuum. But the problem here is that Don Jr.’s meeting didn’t happen in a vacuum, and we are still nowhere near getting the complete story on the Trump team’s connection to Russia (or the result of this meeting, for that matter). This meeting is just one more piece of evidence confirming what many...
