  1. Actually 3 years ago (4-20), followed by 14-14, 18-11, and this current year. Coach Brannen has fit in well at WVHS in his 4 years. 21-5 this year, #1 seed in District, 8th Region All "A" Championship for a team not even ranked in the top 10 (or the 4 additional sleeper teams) in the BGP preseason 8th Region Ranking. Should not be a hard pick for 8th Region Coach of the Year in my opinion.
  2. Walton-Verona started middle school football 2 years ago. They then added a 9-10 (JV)team last year that played in a conference with Ludlow, Bellevue, Dayton, Bracken, and Brossart. Last year they also started a pee wee program that play every Sunday versus other schools (1st-2nd grade team, 3rd-4th grade team, and 5th-6th grade team).
  3. Who is playing in this "little championship" between these teams?

  5. Agreed about all the ingredients being in place, but I take exception to the fact they have to play in NKY district to "grow as a program". Why? I grew up on NKY football as a youngster and feel that this area is the best football in the state outside of Louisville but with the new realignments/classifications there are other ways of having a program "grow". If they stay in Single A (this is where their current enrollment would put them at) they would be in with either District 1-4 (Eminence, Bracken, Gallatin, Trimble, and Frankfort) or 1-3 (Beechwood, Dayton, Ludlow, Bellevue, and Bishop Brossart). Hopefully in the years to come (3+ years) WVHS will be able to compete with everyone on this list other than Beechwood (on a different level right now than almost anyone in A) and Frankfort (which seems to be on the right path to becoming a dominant program). Either district WV would be placed in they would most likely complete their schedule with out of district games against the other district teams. Even if they were in District 1-4, they would still try to schedule all of the District 1-3 teams with the exception of Beechwood (hopefully they would eventually play them to see what they need to do to become a better program). By the way I have way too much time on my hands.
  6. I hope they take them South. Natural rivalries already exist with teams to the south in other sports along with the schools conference affiliation (NCKC). Personally it does not matter to me. If they stay in Northern Kentucky that would be closer opponents to travel to see them play but the "quality" of opponents in the North, for a first year varsity program could be very demanding (look at Brossart and Bracken). If they do go south we get to see schools that we see all the time in the spring and winter sports post seasons. The outlook for football at WVHS is wonderful: great enthusiasm in the community/school, feeder system already started for K-6th grades, great facilities, and good staff in place.
  7. Forgot to mention that Walton-Verona is close to the A/AA cut off. Will be interesting to see if the KHSAA puts them in Northern KY district or to the south like they did in basketball in either A or AA.
  8. 2nd year for football at WVHS. Last year they fielded a middle school team and this year they have a middle school, 9/10, and JV team. Next year they will play a split JV/Varsity team along with the 9/10 and middle school. Current/Final team records are Middle School (7th & 8th graders) 9-2 with around 25+ kids, 9/10 6-2, and JV 6-3 with win tonight at Carroll County (22-8 in the monsoon). Middle School mostly play NCKC Schools (Owen, Carroll, Gallatin, Henry, Trimble), Newport, & Holy Cross. 9/10 in the league with Dayton, Ludlow, Bellevue, Brossart, Bracken (have beaten everyone but Bellevue and Dayton which they split with). They have 45+ kids participating in the 9-11th grades. WVHS Complex in Verona is one of the nicest in the state. Field Turf stadium that seats 2500+, 8 lane track, new baseball and softball fields, cross country course, 6 tennis courts, and 3 practice fields. All of these fields/courts are first rate. Within two years they will have lights on all 3 fields. No generous gifts from anyone paid for this complex. Coach is John "Woody" McMillen who coached the Middle School team last year and now is the head coach of the JV. He will be leading the Bearcats into Varsity level the next couple of years. Great guy and football coach. Only Student Athletes are drug tested at WVHS.
