  1. Do we have a confirmed list of either new Head Coaches or appointments (Cooper HS might be the only one)?? Not really looking for speculation on this post if it is possible, but coaches that are signed, sealed and delivered to new jobs. Thanks in advance.
  2. I hope that Newport stays consistent. They do have some talented classes moving up and consistency will mean more than anything for these kids. Newport has some very good coaches on staff and given the talent that is coming up they should be ready for an impressive run.
  3. Remember when Schlarman was hired he was actually a second choice to Doc Gamble from Withrow due to Brandt's tie w/ him. I can't imagaine Doc would leave there but who knows.
  4. Why wouldn't he ever be a TE? 2 Years of solid weight training and he could easily be up around 240 to 245. He only has fair speed for a wideout (4.6 to 4.65), but now you use him like a Jacob Tamme and you have a force to reckon with.
  5. Anyone want to take bets that SC has him pegged for a Tight End. If they are asking him to find his way to the weight room I'd bet that is the plan there. Look at the highest rated TE for this years draft, Fred Davis at Southern Cal. Came out as a highly regarded WR and leaving as the TE.
  6. He must be doing something right then. Whenever an "average" program has people mad at the coaches it is usually because they are trying to make changes and alot of people don't like changes.
  7. How about Chris Tracy at Woodford?? Coached at Bryan Station, has done great work at Woodford and is still relaitvely young and energetic.
  8. WKU's field will hold about 25,000 once the changes have been made. That is a perfect sized field for this event. Location (the city of Bowling Green is great though) does stink for the most part, but it will be a much better experience from the stands.
  9. Is there really a sponsorship fee? If so, does anyone know the specifics? I had heard they had always chosen Louisville area places due to the low rent, but not that there was any bidding war for the championships. I really can't imagine that the attendance and games bring in alot of money for the KHSAA, seems like a very high overhead affair.
  10. What is the head count at a typical championship game (outside of a X-Trinity game). 6 to 8 thousand? Don't think hotels or anything like that would be an issue, I would guess there are more people at a WKU homecoming than at most games. What would be ideal is a 10,000 to 15,000 seat stadium. My thought would be Kentucky State should build a stadium of that size just for such an occassion (Alumni Stadium holds 7000). It would pump some much needed money into KSU's athletic's program and be held in the capital of the commonwealth. If Georgetown's Rawling Stadium could add in more seating to get it up to 12,000 (currently 5000) you could do 1/2 of the games at Frankfort and 1/2 at Georgetown thus minimizing hotel issues. They are w/ in 20 minutes of each other so going to all the games would be easy. I'd also bet you the hospitality in smaller venues would be greatly increased. My thing is, high school football is best when you really feel like part of the game. Loud crowds, intimate settings and the like. These bigger stadiums are just too big (w/ attendance the way it is). Wouldn't it actually be great to sit in a sold out 10,000 seat stadium for a game. Right up in the action. If that dog doesn't hunt then EKU's would still be a better choice than WKU's. WKU has put a ton into that facility, but it is still too big. The issue is in the 6A games, but I would guess that X and Trinity fans sitting in a sold out 12000 to 15000 seat stadium would be a much better experience than a 1/2 sold out Papa Johns. Neither Louisville or UK (if they open up Commonwealth) need the funds as much as the other schools. Just my 2 cents
  11. Todd Naumann-Offensive Coordinator -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Todd Naumann is entering his 11th year as a teacher and his 16th year as a coach at Moeller High School. He is a history teacher, football coach, and the strength and conditioning coordinator. Todd is a 1991 graduate of Moeller. While a student-athlete, he competed in both football and track & field. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in history at Thomas More College in 1995. During his football career at Thomas More, Todd was a four-year letter winner and established several receiving records. He also earned First Team All Conference honors three consecutive years. Upon graduation, Todd enrolled in Xavier University’s Master’s of Education Program and earned his degree in secondary education in 2000. Todd is entering his 12th year as football coach at Moeller and is in his second season as the offensive coordinator. He is also responsible for coaching the quarterbacks. Todd resides in Sycamore Township with his wife, Leah, and sons Kyle and Caleb. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Todd is a real good guy, and very popular with those that he has worked with, the kids and the coaching community in Southwest Ohio. I've heard that he is the leader of the pack too. The only thing that could foul him up is that working w/in the "family" has not gotten them back to the Faust/Kloenne era so far.
  12. Male is first in KY in total wins, then Highlands and then it is either Mayfield or Danville; can't remeber which. Nationally it is Valdosta HS followed by Massillon Washington. Other schools of note in this general area are Parkersburg HS (WV) and Canton McKinley (6th). I do believe Highlands is 2nd or 3rd on winning percantage nationally (all time). As for who is more dominating, HHS or Trinity. There really is only a hair's difference between the two. Trinity draws from a larger pool of talent, so that isn't a bad thing but just based on numbers they should have more consistent talent. Higlands plays up in competition, but I'm sure if Trinity could play in the GCL (KY schools used to, btw) they would so can't hold that against them. But here is the biggest factor, I went to HHS not Trinity so it's Highlands by a mile!!! In all honesty though, the most impressive run over the past 40 years might go to Beechwood. They have been consistent and dominant drawing from a small pool of players and waffled between Cov Cath and Dixie. To play at that high of a level year in and year out is as impressive a feat as my Birds or the Rocks. Here is the NFHS record book: http://www.nfhs.org/core/contentmanager/uploads/PDFs/Publications/football_part1.pdf Interesting stuff in there.
  13. I'm sure Coach Rash may be able to make that tranisition, he is a very talented young coach who has a very bright future. The issue isn't whether he might succeed, it's who is going to take the responsibility if he doesn't? You can rationalize a hire gone bad if you hire a head coach from programs that are at least comparable in size and stature; but not if hiring a young coach (even w/ ties to the program) from KY. With risk does come rewards though, and I think Noel could deal w/ the coaching aspect of Moeller, but that job is also one w/ political implications. You need to spend as much time coaching as you do helping the school raise money, recruit atheltes/students and other functions. The downside of what could happen if he did fail outweighs the positive.
  14. It's so unfair to compare teams like that. If you had to though, this team is closer to the 81 & 82 team than teams of the past 10 years. No jawdropping division one type talent, but simply talented high school football players. And those type of teams is what built the HHS tradition. Tough, hardworking, determined players that played as a team and brought a very businesslike demeanor to the game. I'll say this though, the next few years could be very interesting.
  15. OK underclass Birds, take the weekend off and get to work on #18!!!! How many days til kickoff?? Highlands was all business. No one player was overwhemingly a factor in beating BG, a true team effort. The whole is always greater than the sum parts. Congatulations to a very special team and to the community at large. Going to the state championships always reaffirms how blessed I was to have been a part of that tradition and just how special of a community it is. Same time next year, hold the rain.
