  1. De La Salle's website has their College and NFL players. Armani Toomer (NYG), Maurice Drew (JAX - R) are two in the NFL that I know of. Also, there are several D1 players but what I saw Saturday night, they don't have many. Also, they had about 5 or 6 guys go both ways. Also, the TE, Inside LB, was also the kicker for the PAT and Kickoffs. They only travel about 50 or less and size wise, no one was massive or impressive but they are the quickest team off the line of scrimmage I've ever seen, at any level. I am sure the D line for Elder would agree.
  2. Great discussion and who can argue with two consecutive weeks but if the concern is over heat acclimation, this won't have any bearing. The problem with this issue is air conditioning. Kids that compete in sports in the heat of the summer just can't come out of the air conditioning for the event. The sudden change to the body is overwhelming, especially if they're not properly hydrated. If a student athlete is going to compete or practice in the heat, especially in late summer, the key is spending more time outdoors (not necessarily running) so the body doesn't go into shock from going to low activity in 70 degree temp with no humidity to high, intense activity in high heat and humidity. While it's still hot and uncomfortable the critical difference is the body's ability to rapidly adjust. Those that work outside and/or play outside in the summer do not have problems with the heat.
  3. Can you say late hit and cheap shot? Those don't count as big hits
  4. Cool.. and I can even remember playing Dixie on the "old" field and not the newe one they just demolished. It ran perpendicular to the most recent one although not in the same space. I guess I am old.
  5. Probably doesn't qualify but since others are mentioned, there was an little known athlete at Lloyd High School who went to Hanover, IN for basketball and ended up being a football superstar at that level of play. He was worked out by Paul Brown himself (set up by Jim Red Dog Daughtery) and was signed as a free agent. He made it to the final cut. He was a wideout and the person selected in front of him was Steve Kreider. His name is Jim Wilson. This was in 1979/80 time frame. Saw him play in college and even at that level, very fast and great hands. He just wasn't tall enough to make the reg season roster. (only 6')
  6. Lloyd beat NC 7-0 when NewCath was at least a 3 touchdown favorite
  7. I know I am coming into this conversation late and I haven't read all of the posts(some have too much emotion). I think this issue comes down to mathematics. If "private" schools in general had a significant advantage then schools like Holy Cross (Covington) would or soon should be dominating. That hasn't happened and it doesn't appear that it is. Covington Catholic is another example. They should be able to whip the tar out of Highlands each year. They don't. This is just a numbers issue that could be fixed (while not easy) with one more class (5A) and place those schools with the true mathematical advantage in that class. This mathematical advantage wouldn't only be based totally on enrollment but also on drawing area. Also, if a school is able to draw out of their district (private included) then they need to "play up" to the next class or one that more closely resembles their "catchment area". Also, any school that would like to elect to "play up" (like Highlands wanted to when the 2A issue was raised) would be required to "play all the way up" to Class 5A. This has the potential to keep peace and it also would generate more revenue (1 more set of playoffs and state championship game). While it could end up close to the "at large & Louisville" set up from the past, it seems to me that it's the most reasonable alternative. To have rules where students are not able to participate is unbelievably short sighted and potentially further damages high school sports. Most would agree that if we could get more children into sports, we would for the betterment of society. There are plenty of smart people, that given the issues, could develop a system that addresses this sort of thing and ensure the rights of parents and students to choose and still be eligible for athletics at the same time.
  8. I believe the "That's My Boy finalists were Lance Durbin, Conner, Mike Damico, Simon Kenton, Marcus Davis, Boone County
