  1. I thought Rowan was on the verge of turning it around this season with a new staff and high numbers from what I had heard. Maybe they are still a year or 2 away?
  2. Sorry about posting the wrong score. I lost a little focus toward the end and was just talking to the crowd too much. Nets gave a pretty good summary. Defense gave up some yards to the outside, but really hustled to the ball and gang tackled. Hope the Buckler kid is ok.
  3. I hope Coach Trusty gets the job. Nothing against the guy from Tenn., I know nothing about him, but I think Trusty would be a good choice and has put his time in at Morgan Co. Might make the Morgan vs Fleming games a little more interesting for the fans of those schools. There hasn't been a lot of intensity from the crowd for this game in the recent past and this could help.
  4. Here in Morgan word is that Trusty has a really good shot at it, along with a teaching position.
  5. I have always heard from Rowan people that this is a hard position due to the soccer and basketball teams getting so many of the athletes. I don't know if this is true or not. Seems like Rowan had good numbers the one time I saw them play last year. But, if they are losing skill players to the other sports I can understand how this could be a hard school to turn into a winner in football.
  6. Wasn't there, but heard it went well. Coach Wood spoke about the future a couple of times, is what I was told. Happy to hear he is sticking around. Seems like he is on his way to turning Morgan into a football program. A couple of the basketball players that came out their senior year and one that came out his junior year ended up with awards. If the football team can start getting those athletes every year it can start doing some real damage in the playoffs, in my opinion. Hopefully, the success of these basketball players will open the eyes of some of the athletes at Morgan and they will get into football. Football Mom, was you there? If so, what is your take on the banquet?
  7. 2 Hand, I think Morgan loses a couple more starters on offense. On the O-Line the right tackle and left tackle were seniors, both receivers, the quarterback and one wing. That is 6. However, many kids subbed in and out last year, and many others played substantial minutes due to injuries so I think the offense will be pretty good. The other returning starters are pretty good players, quite a bit of speed.
  8. Wow there Mike. I have already stated that I only talked to someone from Rowan Co., and that someone is in the football program, not that I was from there or know about the details the program. I do know where it was when he took over, and I know where it is now, in terms of competiveness against local teams. Rowan is more competative now than a few years ago, but not where the Rowan community expected it to be, was my thinking. I could be wrong being that I don't live there but only talk to some of the fans. I wished Coach Preston well wherever he goes, if you remember reading it in my post. No need to get excited over nothing. I did play some high school football, but have never coached football. Does this mean I know nothing about the sport at all or have no right to state a simple opinion about whether a program has or has not turned around? I guess "turnaround" is vague, and what I think it is must be different than what you consider a turnaround. No big deal. I know of his football background and the championships, so no need to be so aggressive. His history speaks for itself. By the way, who is McDowell since you are obviously in the know with all the inner workings of the Rowan Co. program? Is he the former coach of Lawrence Co.?
  9. He was at Rowan 3 years I know of. I have also heard that their main back, Stevens, is not at Bath Co. Does anyone know if this is true?
  10. Who is Gary McDowell and where is/does he coach? I am a little suprised that Coach Preston would get a head coaching job at a program like Western. I don't know much about Western at all, except that they won some games last year. After 4 years and not turning Rowan around, just seems odd he would get the job. A person in the Rowan football program told me last week that Preston had also applied for the Lewis job. May just be a rumor going around Rowan Co., I don't know. Hope Coach Preston does well wherever he goes.
  11. I have talked to 2 people who talked to coach Wood personally this week about this opening and he is staying put in Morgan Co. I never heard him say it with my own ears, but he is going nowhere as of right now, and probably for a very long time.
  12. Cougardad, after doing some checking Morgan actually beat 3 other teams 3 years ago. I think that season was the beginning of the turnaround. They only went 3-7, but were in most of the games and were within a score from winning 2 or 3 more in the last few minutes of those games. I think they had only won 4 or 5 games combined over the previous 4 or 5 seasons. I remember the community really getting excited over football for the 1st time in my life that season. Now we are starting to get the athletes out for football, and if we keep that going I think we can be a playoff team every year. Coach Wood has definetely taken that momentum and built on it to the point Morgan is where it is at now. The turnaround has been remarkable. Now hopefully we make a deep run in the playoffs. Playing until Thanksgiving week or so sure would be nice!!!
