  1. Trigg lost some of their strong middle distance runners and a thrower, but will still have some key athletes coming back including Scotty Mayes. They and Ft. Campbell with Derrick Stallworth will be contenders for Region 1. Russellville could come on strong in that Region but don't have the distance runners to win state. I feel Danville is in the same boat where they are thick with talent but won't have as COMPLETE a team as say Brossart or St. Henry.
  2. I like the reasoning behind it...giving KY HS students an opportunity to be scouted for Javelin by college coaches...but the throwing techniques for the TURBOJAV and the JAVELIN don't convert very well in my opinion. We had some real Javelins at our school and worked with them to practice for the TurboJav, but got poor results with the Turbo in meets by using techniques we were successful with in practice. The nose of the TurboJav is MUCH heavier than the real thing, and pulls the Turbo down FAST and shortens your throw if you don't throw it UP at at fairly steep angle. With a Real Javelin if you throw it up at a steep angle, it turns the nose up and will even flip it over barely going any where. After a few bad throws we ditched the PROPER throwing technique and pretty much just heaved the thing as straight as possible and did a lot better.
  3. Speaking of uncontested events...I was letting a Middle Schooler practice for the TURBOJAV in the MS State Meet yesterday with some real javelins we had acquired from a local University along with some other equipment. When we were done I let some of the other kids try it and they got pretty frustrated with it...BUT, this one high school boy threw it PERFECT and FAR Every Time! He is an average athlete and only a sophomore but not good enough to have a top spot in any individual event. He was a NATURAL at the Javelin though and our better athletes were SO frustrated...I was loving it! Besides the few meets that hold Turbo Jav where else could he develop this skill in our area? Are there meets over the summer that contest the real Javelin and what would be a good throw for a High School Boy? I looked at some other states but they vary a lot from state to state.
  4. I think Fort Campbell will make it a sweep at State...unfortunately. They are talented and DEEP in both boys & girls. Their distance runners, though never outstanding overall, have improved and that is where Badstown will fall behind in the boys standings. For the girls St. Henry, Brossart, and Fairview can't hang with Ft. C in the sprints. If they are lucky Danville, Russellville, and Fulton County may bring them down a few notches within reach. Lyon County has joined Class A Track and Ft. Knox has dropped down also. Has anyone else joined the party, and what impact will they have?
  5. Host School: Fulton County High School Meet Sponsor: Dereck Chavis – Murray State Track& Field Meet Review: This first time event went very well and was a much needed event to boost participation in Indoor Track for the west end of the state. There were a few rough edges and a bumpy start, but after the first two events the meet ran smoothly and was completed it within 4½ hours which is excellent for an Indoor meet of this size. There ended up being 12 Girls Teams and 18 Boys Teams from schools as close as Murray & Calloway County to as far away as Louisville-Butler & Henderson. Elite Level Performances ranked by KYTrackXC.Com were produced in several events. 7. Fulton County is Co-Hosting an Indoor Track Meet along with Murray State Track Coach Dereck Chavis at Murray State University in the Regional Special Events Center (RSEC) Saturday March 11th. Right now there are 13 schools who will be represented by teams or athletes at this Indoor Track Meet… Fulton County, Marshall County, Calloway County, St. Mary’s, Ballard Memorial, McLean County, Grayson County, Southwestern, Hopkinsville, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Daviess County, Louisville Butler & Henderson County This is shaping up to be a Very Competitive Meet for a first time event! Hopefully it will be a success and continue next season on an earlier date with a larger time frame for more events to be held. I'm interested in seeing the 4x55m Co-Ed Throwers Shuttle Relay. That ought to be fun to watch! WEST_REGION_HS_INVITATIONAL_INFO.doc
  8. OK, I think I got it figured out... AAU = District (also called State) - Regional - Nationals (also called Jr. Olympics) USATF = Association (also called State) - Regional - Nationals (also called Jr. Olympics) These are the individual qualifying rounds in order to advance to the two separate "Jr. Olympics." Besides this both have their own National Club Championship that is open to ANY registered club within each organization, no qualifying necessary. Now, outside of this there is the... USATF Youth Outdoor Nationals (Compete in Age Groups)and the USATF Junior Outdoor Nationals (Compete in 1 pool of 14-20yr. olds)...These events both require entrants to meet Qualifying Event Standards in order to be accepted into the meet. After these, the top 10 performances in each event pulled from the three USATF Jr. Olympics, Youth Nationals, or Junior Nationals qualify for the IAAF World Youth Championship selection pool. The top marks at the Youth Worlds qualify for the IAAF World Jr. Championships. By competing in USATF & IAAF Youth and Junior events one can be Invited to compete in or enter "Non-Youth" or Professional Meets with Qualifying Standards (some will take entrants as young as 14) but the standards are Olympic Caliber. Many have the A & B Standards used for the Olympic Trials Qualifyers. Does anyone have experience with these organizations and their events/programs and have an opinion on which is better for what type of athlete? It seems to me that USATF offers more opportunity, but may be more difficult to advance or stand out in than AAU. They all need more creative names for their meets...I was totally confused.
  9. Can someone please describe to me the differences or relationships (if there are any) between the national track & field organizations? I am particulary confused with the difference between AAU & USATF and Junior Nationals & Junior Olympics (are they the same event?). Also, what are the advancements within each? State, Area, Association, District, Region, Jr. National, Jr. World, Jr. Olympic…I’m Confused! I know that they are not State High School affiliates but why does Qualifying in KHSAA State Meets serve as a Qualifyer for these other organizations events sometimes? Just trying to gain a better understanding of the big picture.
  10. Ft. Campbell's Girls will make a bigger impact in Class A than the boys I believe. I have them scoring 186 points in Region 1 Class A by plugging them in last year's results and taking out the seniors. That is a fairly strong region with Murray, Mayfield, Fulton County, Russellville, Trigg, and Hancock within about 20 points of each other every year. With Ft. Knox dropping down also St. Henry and Bishop Brossart may have seen their last days at the top.
  11. Trigg County always seems to reload in the 4x400. With Scottie Mayes and the Acree boys that keep coming out of the woodwork they should be tough.
  12. Bardstown & Ft. Campbell will come down to the Distance Runners. Their sprint & field event results are dead even going by last years state meet. Neither is a X-Country Power, can either one get someone to produce points for them at state for a distance of 800m or more?
  13. Mayfield Blasted Murray on Turf at Murray State 49-21, but I think that is their only artificial surface game this season. We finally have RAIN in the forecast for most of next week. On turf I'd think this would effect the NCC throwing game more then Mayfield's ball control running offense.
