Nashville. The Preds held a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period, but Vancouver scored twice to take the game into overtime. Ryan Hartman, Nick Banino, and Calle Jarnkrok all scored for Nashville in regulation. 3:05 into overtime, Mattias Ekholm passed the puck to Colton Sissons right in front of the Canuck goal and Sissons guided the puck up and over Anders Nilsson for the game winner.

From Columbus. I was watching this game during the Lightning intermissions. My understanding of the graphics, being displayed during the third period of the game, was that the Jackets had not won a game over the Kings in regulation since 2014. They sure did this time. Dustin Brown gave LA the lead a little under 4 minutes into the game. A minute and a half later Luke Sedlak answered and Amemi Panarin scored his 1st goal of the game to give...

In Amalie Arena, the 2 best teams in hockey faced off, yet again. This time Tampa Bay and the team right behind them in the Atlantic division, Toronto. The Bolts defense in front of their goalie was horrible, allowing 49 shots on goal. However, Andrei Vasilevskiy, in his first game back after missing 14 games due to an injured foot, stopped 48 of them and Tampa Bay won its 8th game in a row. The 48 saves was a career high for 88. Maple...

Senior. He's played AAU ball during the summer, but he got a late in life start, playing basketball, and really needs work. We could have an entire thread about him. He did not have a good game last night, though Largo put it all over Dixie Hollins, 79-44. BTW, it's the first time I've seen a running clock in basketball.

As far as brands go, most of the cast iron skillets we have were my mother's. The ones she cooked in before I showed up on the scene. They are almost 70 years old. I have no idea who made them, but you can't tell how old they are by looking at them. I have several that I've bought from Publix. They seasoned up nice and I can't tell the difference between using them and the older ones.

I used to eat there all of the time, when I was a single pup. The last Captain D's in the Tampa Bay area moved out more than a decade ago. Sounds like they've also changed their menu a bit. FWIW, there are only 4 Long John Silvers left in the area and they are combined with other chains, like Taco Bell and A&W Root Beer. At one time, they were all over the place.

Went to Moe's, yesterday, for lunch. It's been a while, like 5 or 6 years. They've changed the menu slightly. Had the Earmuffs, their version of a burrito bowl, with steak. Forgot how good they are. Last Friday, I went to Pollo Tropical for lunch. It's a chicken chain. I don't know whether you have them up there or not. Again, it's been a few years. Ordered another bowl thingy called the Tropichop. It's not exactly a burrito bowl, because you...

They are perfect for many things, especially cornbread, but I use them for Chicago style pizza on the grill.

In Amalie, Steven Stamkos got the 9th hat trick of his career and Anthony Cirelli got 2 goals as the Bolts won their 7th in a row. Ryan McDonagh also scored for Tampa Bay and Louis Domingue had 23 saves, 13 of them in the 3rd period to keep his 3rd period save percentage above 94 percent. Kevin Hayes scored 2 goals for New York with Jesper Fast adding one late in the third, before Cirelli sealed the deal with an empty netter with 38 seconds...

At the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. It took 10 rounds in the shootout, but Jake Guentzel scored the game winner. Casey DeSmith held the Islanders to 1 goal on 26 shots in regulation and overtime, then saved 4 of 5 in the shootout. Anthony Beauvillier scored with 13 minutes left in the second to give New York a 1-0 lead going into the third period. Derrick Brassard tied it for the Pens early in the third and both teams went scoreless from...

In Calgary ... Colton Sissons tied the game 1-1 in the first. Craig Smith did it again in the third to make it 2-2. Then Juuse Saros, in goal to give Rinne a night off, gave up 2 goals to Flames Garret Hathaway and Alan Quine to put Nashville in a hole they could not climb out of. Elias Lindholm added an empty netter with 3 minutes to go to seal the deal. The Preds end their 2 game western Canadian road trip and face Ottawa at home on...

The honey dipper is coming this morning to clean out my septic tank. If anyone wishes to help, I have extra straws. Speaking of STDs, this evening we are going over to a retirement community (55 and over trailer park) in Largo, FL. where my sister-in-law's parents reside. There, we will have dinner and then observe the annual community "Golf Cart Christmas Parade". The Christmas excitement around the Rat's Nest is palpable.

Steven Stamkos, with 2 goals and 2 assists, led Tampa Bay to its 6th straight win. Ondrej Palat also scored twice. Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, and Anthony Cirelli added one each. Louis Domingue saved 29 shots. It was announced today that Anton Stralman and Andre Vasilevskiy started practicing with the team. I don't know how long this will last, but the Bolts have run away from the rest of the NHL, for the moment. They are 6 points up on...

Also, I never said the Notre Dame fan based cared about Notre Dame's financial situation. Notre Dame cares about Notre Dame's financial situation. Also, if a program is wasting its time not trying to win a national title, then more than 50% of FBS schools should drop their programs immediately.

The Longhorn network is allowed to exist in the Big 12 because the Big 12 would collapse without Texas. Don't get me wrong, ND has to attempt to compete for a national championship and that should always be their goal. The goal in football is to win, but their fan base won't bail if they don't make it in years where they don't go undefeated. History proves that. So there is no need to be burdened by a conference affiliation.

Stubbornness? They haven't sniffed a national championship but twice in the last 30 years, yet they get on primetime TV as much as Alabama and Ohio State. Why is that? ND has the largest fan base in college football. A fan base that stays loyal regardless of whether they make the playoff or not. Notre Dame Stadium is packed every home game and when ND is in town, you are guaranteed a sellout, regardless of their record. The Catholics...

In Amalie Arena, David Postrnak scored his 20th goal of the season to start things off, but Brayden Point answered with his 21st as Boston and Tampa Bay were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. After a scoreless 2nd, Mathieu Joseph scored 2 minutes and 40 seconds into the 3rd period. A 80 seconds later, with J.T, Miller in the box serving a penalty on Louis Domingue for delay of game, Anthony Cirelli scored a short handed goal to put the...

I hate back to backers and this one showed why. Coming into this game, Tampa Bay had won 12 straight regular season games over the Wings and had pretty much dominated them so far this season. Not so much this night. It was Nyquist-Nielsen night in Detroit. Red Wings Gustav Nyquist and Frans Nielsen lead Detroit to a 2-0 advantage after 1 period. Mathieu Joseph score twice to tie it for the Bolts early in second, but fell behind again when...

Interesting rule changes. No kickoffs. 30 second clock. An alternative for the on side kick, which I find intriguing. The scoring team can opt to take the ball on their own 35 4th down and 10. Opens up a whole new can of worms.

Nick Saban explained it best, so I'm not going to repeat it. Before the playoffs, before the BCS, the bowl games may not have meant anything to you, but they certainly did to most everybody else. Attendance prove it. Ratings prove it. I agree that they are meaningless, now, and so watered down they are unwatchable.

They meant more back then because there were so few of them, 30 years ago. More than half the teams playing did not play in bowls like they do, now. There were 18 bowl games in 1987-88. 36 of 104 D1-A teams played in bowl games, 35%. Texas had the worst record of all the bowl teams that year, 7-5. The rest were 8-4 or better. There were 40 bowl games last year consisting of 80 teams from 130 D1-A programs. 62% of the teams in the FBS...
