Yanni Gourde is in trouble for a check he made on Staal. Did not see it, but I wouldn't put it past him. He got a game misconduct, so he'll probably get a game off, too.

If there is a chance PJ should be able to play, their opponent has to game plan for him. If Cal admits he's done, they don't. To paraphrase Yogi, basketball is 90% mental, the other half is physical.

Sidney Crosby scored in the second round of the shootout and Brian Boyle failed to counter in the third to give the Pens the win in Nashville, last night. With Pittsburgh up 1-0, Ryan Ellis sent the game in to OT at 16:59 of the 3rd period. Crosby got the only goal of the shootout. Winnipeg lost, so with the OT loss, the Preds gain a point on the Jets. Nashville has 7 games left, Winnipeg 8.

Another road loss for the Jackets. With Montreal winning, Columbus falls out of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It was an even game until the 3rd, when Edmonton put up 3 goals, the last on the only power play of the game. I'm not a big fan of collecting penalty minutes, but the lack of penalties on the part of the Blue Jackets, to me anyway, indicates a lack of urgency on the part of Columbus. They are fighting for a...

The Bolts win their 7th in a row, blowing out Carolina in the third on the road. The Hurricanes took a 3-2 lead into the 3rd period, only to watch Tampa Bay score 4 goals, the finisher, an empty netter by Ryan McDonagh. Steven Stamkos, Tyler Johnson, Brayden Point, Anthony Cirelli, and Ryan Callahan all scored for the Lighting. Tampa Bay got their 58th win of the season and now has 120 points, 1 shy of the 2009/10 Capitals and 4 less than...

The Bolts continued to grind it out to the end of the season with their 6th win in a row, last night in Washington. Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Lars Eller goal after one period, but Nikita Kucherov scored a powerplay goal 1:19 into the second, followed 55 seconds later by a goal from Steven Stamkos. Anthony Cirelli gave the Bolts a 3-1 lead. Carl Haglin and T.J. Oshi tied the game, before Kuch scored his second goal of the game...

The Bolts end up having a brutal end of season schedule. In their last 9 games, they only play 1 team that is not fighting for a playoff spot. They play Washington twice and Boston twice. They end the season on a 4 game road trip that ends at Toronto and Boston.

Wayne Simmonds picked up his first goal as a Pred and Nashville shutout Toronto at home, last night. February addition, Brian Boyle scored and Filip Forsberg scored his 26th goal of the season. Pekka Rinne had 22 saves. It was the 3rd win in a row for Nashville. With the win, the Preds move to one point behind Winnipeg in the Central and stay 3 points ahead of St. Louis. However, Nashville has only 8 games left to play while the Jets have...

Columbus drops it's second game in a row with this loss in Calgary, last night. Oliver Bjorkstrand cut Calgary's lead to 3-2 with a little over 14 minutes to go in the game, but at 19:09 the Flames scored an empty netter to seal the deal. Zach Werenski scored on a 2 on 1 rush to open the scoring in the 1st period. Carolina and Montreal both won, so the Jackets now hold a single point lead on the Habs for the last playoff spot. They now...

The 1995/96 Detroit Red Wings, who hold the record for the most wins in a season and had 131 points that year, did not win the Stanley Cup. They did not even make the finals, losing to Colorado in the Conference Finals.

Tampa Bay locked up the Atlantic Division, Eastern Conference home ice, and President's Trophy last night in Amalie Arena. In the first period, Steven Stamkos scored his 384th goal of his career, bypassing Vinny Lecavalier for most goals scored in franchise history and tied the game 1-1. The Victor Hedman gave the Bolts the lead 44 second into the third. With 1:39 to go in the game, Stamkos almost made a tragic error by throwing the...

I checked Ticketmaster for the Jacksonville sub regional and the weekend is pretty much sold out. Only thing I could find was end zone seating and nothing near court. Go to hotels.com and look for rooms in Jacksonville. You find rooms going like hot cakes on there. While I was looking, there were 107 other people looking for rooms there at the same time. The better places appear to already be sold out.

The win set a franchise record for most wins in a season, with 55. Nikita Kucherov added 2 assists to maintain his league lead in that category and points. Kuch has 117 points, Connor McDavid is second with 103. He also leads in assists with 82 verses 67 by Connor McDavid and Blake Wheeler in 2nd place.

Alex Killorn got his first NHL hat trick as the Bolts tightened the screws on the President's Trophy in Amalie Arena last night. Tyler Johnson, Erik Cernak, and Yanni Gourde also scored for the Bolts. Alex Ovechkin had 2 goals and John Carlson scored for Washington. Tampa Bay leads Boston by 19 points with 10 games to go for both teams. The maximum point total the Bruins can obtain, if they win out, is 115 points. The Lightning have 114....

The road bites the Jackets in the backside again as they only get 1 point in Boston. Matt Duchene had Columbus's only goal and Joonas Korpisalo held Boston to a single power play goal in the 1st period of regulation. However, Brad Marchand licked one by JK, 3:30 into OT to give the Bruins the win. Montreal lost, so the Jackets have a 3 point lead over them for the last playoff spot in the East. Carolina won and now has a 1 point lead over...

With 11 games left, Tampa Bay, who has 112 points, needs to get to 115 points to lock up the Atlantic division and home ice in the Eastern Conference. They need 116 to lock up the Presidents Trophy and home ice throughout the playoffs. This assumes Boston and San Jose win out.

Coming up I-65 this afternoon, it was interesting watching the eighteen wheelers negotiate the wind. It was amazingly strong. Seems OK, now. It's 63 outside right, now. The forecast for E-Town shows the high for tomorrow to be 45?

This looked like it was going south in Detroit for the Bolts, this evening. The Wings scored the first 3 goals of the game and led 3-0 midway through the 2nd period. At that moment the main 4 cylinders of the Tampa Bay offense said ENOUGH. Steven Stamkos scored at that point, then Brayden Point, Tyler Johnson, Nikita Kucherov piled on 4 more consecutive goals, 2 by Kuch, to seal the deal for the Lightning. The Wings added a late goal...

I watched this one, but was too busy Wednesday to report on it. This game was fun to watch. I particularly like Josh Anderson's first goal, when Zach Werenski stole the put from Brad "Lick Boy" Marchand and made a perfect pass on for the break away. Columbus looked like they were going to run away with it, but Boston came back in the second to make it a 1 goal game going into the 3rd. The Werenski struck with a goal of his own and Boone...
