Didn't Bracken barely win last year and that was without Blackburn being at qb all game i believe. I think with Blackburn being back at qb full time it makes Ludlows offense very tough to stop. I think it will be another high scoring game like the one Ludlow just had against Carroll County. Ludlow 35 Bracken Co. 28

Exactly. My heart thinks they will do better than expected. However I can't be confident in that because of how bad the line was last year even with 2 very good lineman last year.

Yes and no. They have a good running game and defense got better. They should have more weapons in the passing game too. However just like the Jags were a popular pick last year. It's hard to tell until they actually play.

Great post. I can definitely buy everything you said here. I know Dalton will be the qb this year, and I hope he proves me wrong and he and this team takes the next step. Now if he and the team fails again. I do think they should go in a different route with McCarron. Trade Dalton get high picks and keep restocking this roster with younger talent. This way the younger talent gets experience while McCarron is too, most likely still be...

This team has had top 10 defenses, durinf Daltons time. A top 10 running game one year. He has had talent to throw to. Yet in 4 playoff games he has one career td. He has been flat out horrible in both prime time games and playoff games. When you see teams who do well in those situations. Their qbs usually make some type of play to help them win, even if it's not a great game. Dalton in 6 years has not done that in those situations. A leader...

All teams though usually have some weak spot. All teams have things that may not go well in a big playoff game. Shoot someone mentioned that it was the 49ers defense for the reason the 49ers made a super Bowl with Kap. When in reality that great defense gave up over 30 points twice in 3 games in the playoffs. Kap and the offense had to make plays to win playoff games that year. Things will go wrong in a game. Mostly every playoff team has...

Fair enough. What's the best way to judge though? I fully admit that I can't guarntee McCarron would do good. However a lot of people seem to act like they know McCarron wouldn't do as well as Dalton. My point is based on what? McCarron honestly looked very Dalton like in his 4 games. Would think with more experience he and the offense would open up even more. With Dalton we know he is very good when games are at 1 and 4 in the regular...

Hmmm lets see since I been on this site the Bengals have had a few backup qbs. I never once said hey let's see the backup play. Even while people talked about Palmer is washed up, a bum, etc. I definitely didn't want backup qb Johnson playing when he backed up Dalton, or whoever the other guy was. I want the backup McCarron to play because I think with the talent the Bengals have. He also would do well. I believe that we have 6 years of data...

Makes sense. But I would say the same could have been said last year about the Cowboys when Romo got hurt. Or the same with the Rams when Trent Green got hurt and their backup was some arena football qb named Kurt Warner. Also the same would have been said about the Patriots in 2001 if Drew Bledsoe gets hurt they have no chance. Or even Green Bay when a 3rd string qb named Favre took over. So its not surprising that would be said when talking...

I think Pittsburgh fans would even disagree with you about their defense being very good during Daltons career. Against the Bengals and Dalton they been great, against the rest of the nfl not so much. During Daltons first two years they were great. The last 4 not so much. They were even in the bottom 5 of the nfl in pass yards given up two of those years. Also 4 of the last 6 years they have averaged giving up more than 20 points a game. So I...

Why? I believe in 6 years which is 12 games against the Steelers Dalton has scored more than 20 in 3 of them. Shoot out of his only 3 wins against the Steelers. 2 of those wins came with the Bengals scoring only 16 points. So yeah not sure what scares you with Dalton. He and the Bengals are horrible against you all, no matter what Dalton has around him. At worst McCarron had looked at least equal to Dalton in one and a half games against you...

As quick of a release as Andy has. Statistically he has been one of the worst qbs in the nfl when teams bring 5 or more rushers. He is not good against the blitz. When people bring the blitz and have pressure in his face especially up the middle he struggles.

How so? I didn't realize Dalton has shown the ability to play well to help the team in prime time or playoff games. I didn't realize Dalton wasnt one of the worst qbs statistically in the nfl against a rush of 5 or more. I didn't know Daltons mental makeup has shown he can handle those big moments and help make a play for his team in those big games. 1 and 4 o'clock Andy in the regular season is a good qb. Thats not the same qb though as...

You realize Andy Dalton is a poor mans Alex Smith right? Or at beat is Alex Smith. Alex Smith does well with less offensive talent around him. His teams will do well but Alex Smith is not going to win any team a super bowl. Which is what we have in Dalton but he has better talent around him than Smith but won't ever get over the top because he can't play in big games. Smith is not ever going to win anything and after 6 years no reason to think...

I will go with more of what i seen in a pre season game against a team who has not seen the same players every day for a month. Which the Bengals first team line played the whole half and didn't look bad at all. Great no, but not bad either.

He might not get to walk. The Bengals believe they get him for one more season, because his rookie year he was on the non football injury IR all season. Which means it wouldn't count for a year of service. So instead of being an unrestricted free agent he would be a restricted free agent. Meaning they could put a 1st round tender on him. So if anytime signs him they would have to give up their 1st round pick. Obviously McCarron is going to...

Agreed. What will happen is AJ will be traded to a team with not much around him and won't look to good. Then people will say see he wasn't good. McCarron is not Brady where it doesn't matter who he has around him, he will be good. Shoot mostly every qb as you pointed out needs some talent around them. Just like if we traded Dalton somewhere else I don't think he would look good either without having people like Green or Eifert to throw to. ...

Not saying it's ok. But the fact you're arguing speaks volumes. One qb in Dalton has lots of experience lots of reps and games but yet still always struggles in all his prime time games and playoff games. He has yet to make a play in those games to help out the team out if the rest of the team is struggling early. While McCarron in just 4 games has done more to give the team at least a chance to win in those games. So considering one an has...

While I admit Driskell looked good. He had only two passes that were impressive. The comeback throw to Erickson, and the TD throw to Malone. Everything else was short little check down throws less than 5 yards, including a simple screen pass that went 30 yards. I sure hope he does continue to look good though because that's a great situation to be in then for the Bengals.

I'm saying while still a lost he still did better than the majority of prime time/playoff games Dalton has despite Dalton having all the experience and always having all the reps with the first team offense for years. While McCarron had only two weeks of reps with the first team offense and no Tyler Eifert on the road and went to overtime. Then 4 weeks with first team offense before first playoff game in pouring rain. And yet he still made plays...

If Minnesota gives up what they did for Sam Bradford who has done nothing and injury prone. Then Dalton would get a team to give up a lot.

I don't think Daltons stock has fell at all. Plus with this talent Dalton should have a great regular season. Especially with 14 games at 1 or 4. So they could get a lot for him if they did decide to trade Dalton after this year if they fail again.

I don't know, it would be tough to keep 3 this year. Especially if they decide to keep 7 wrs, which has been talked about. They have so much competition at wrs, rbs, DL, and in the secondary. They will have to cut a guy who could contribute more than a 3rd string qb would. With that said with McCarron possibly gone after this year. They wouldn't want to lose Driskell. It will be very interesting in who they cut. Personally four guys I...

Hmmm let's see Eifert didn't play in 2 of those games. We already know the difference he makes when he doesn't play. McCarron had zero reps with the first team all season and was running the scout offense rather than getting to run the Bengals plays. So do you truly feel the Bengals really were going to be able to just open things up. Subpar against the super bowl champs? If that was subpar with McCarron leading them on early scoring drives...
