  1. Both are equally important. Dont ever kill one with the other. As has been stated I have seen at least as many players signed in Summer Ball as High School. Go to Marietta GA and watch the Perfect Game Tournament and you will see every college practically in the nation represented. It would not even be close as to a high school state tourney. Also colleges play when high school in playing and recruiting their is pretty much word of mouth and then they schedule to see them play in the summer. I think they are a perfect compliment to each other. Also some high school coaches never push their own players to a college coach. I coach summer and fall ball and have had contact with probably more college coaches than most high school coaches. I have several kids each year contacted and receive several calls about when and where the player is going to be playing. Sum it up, leave everything alone as both help acheive the same goal. Get kids in college.
  2. The referee flopped and this is a travesty. I do not condone misconduct but the referree should never be allowed to ref again.
  3. No question about it, the Sweet Sixteen. However they are totally different tournaments. A lot of small schools dont legitimately have the chance to win the big tourney and this is a legitimate tournament with some good talent. Basketball especially is hard for the small schools. Baseball is a little easier in the big tourney, usually their are at least 5 small schools in the Baseball Sweet Sixteen and they can compete, however in basketball this is not the case unless they have an unusually large front line.
  4. They want Jai Lucas from Texas, they are holding one for him. He is John Lucas's son.
  5. Guys this is a high school senior. From all the newspaper reports I read he never said anything any other high school kid wouldnt say. I didnt take it as whining at all. When you have a player of his caliber and dont get him the ball you should'nt win. Sounds like there is not enough balls to go around on that team. Read yesterdays Herald Leader and you will see that Kentucky has a history of knocking off the Fictitious Number 1 teams in the country. Congrats Scott County. I just want to know how we let Indiana get the Mackey kid out of our back door. Looks like Lofton all over. Also the Pettigew kid is getting overlooked. If that caliber player will commit then let Patterson wait on a scholarship. This has happened time and again at UK.
  6. Brenton Hamilton who graduated from Prestonsburg was 17-0 thru his Soph year at Pikeville when he transferred. I dont know what happened at Pburg his first few starts. Had he stayed at Pikeville he had a shot at the state wins record and surely this record. He was our 3 or 4 those years and wasnt pitching against our toughest competition so I think he could have shattered this one. Nice thread Strike.
  7. Coach J has done an excellent job of getting the most from his players. I thought both teams played a little shakey but it was a good game. Any time two rivals play then their is gonna be some emotions get out of hand. Contgrats Belfry and good luck the rest of the way.
  8. Coach Lawson' coached teams have just about every record in the PHS record books, mostly coming from the 1999 and 2005 teams. He was a great coach and more importantly a fair coach. I can honestly say he put the best 9 players on the field each day. I hated to see him leave. IMO one of the all time greats in 15th region history. Had he coached another 20 years or so like Adkins and Collins, I think his win totals would have been similar if not better. 4 regions in 9 years says it all. I am glad my son got to play for him, so is my son. He has nothing but respect for Coach. Coach Priode has a big shoes to fill and I think he will fill in admirably. I wish him nothing but the best. I know he has a learning curve but he played under Charlie Adkins and in a premier program. He was instrumental in resurrecting the Pikeville College Program when it was about to fold in the early 80's. His coaching staff includes Chad Salyers who played at Ashland and Georgetown College, and Don Isner who played double A ball in the Cardinals organization. Great selections in my opinion. Looks as though he is off on the right foot. Good luck!
  9. I think Mayo is out for at least 5 more weeks. I heard that and it may not be accurate. I dont think this week could be an option for him to come back. He is a competitor but I think the doctors will have the final say. Good Luck John.
  10. Houston McAnnallen at Pikeville will be a stud before its over. Blake Branham will also be a great quarterback. JR Robinson is another good one.
  11. Absolutely on target. Josh Adams at Pikeville had a 1.8 to 1.9 pop time his sr. year. With adequate pitching nobody even tried stealing and this is where it benefits. Some may have been able to but the coaches respected his arm so much they very rarely attempted to steal on him. As you said it results in a change of plan for the runner and the opposing coaches. It also allows your pitcher the opportunity to not worry so much about the runner. It changes the whole complexion of the game.
  12. Agreed. Any wanna be coach who throws a kid that much should be banned from coaching. But ulitimately, it is the parents responsibility to protect the child from harm and the coach. I personally think that pitch counts and days rest need to be stringintly adhered to. Strike3 is as knowledgeable as I have talked to about these matters. All to often the parent is the coach and that is where the major problem lies.
  13. Lets see if you feel this way when Belfry puts it on you.
  14. What position does he play and does he pitch?
