  1. Haven't seen this discussed in any other threads yet but the accommodations for the teams are the biggest joke. I talked to someone at Beechwood and they were forced to get dressed in baseball batting cages, outside of the football stadium. They didn't have any running water or toilets. I was told players were literally going to the bathroom in bushes outside of the hitting facility. Hazard was also forced to leave the stadium and walk to the basketball arena to get dressed. These kids work their tails off for 6 months in order to reach the state finals and how are they rewarded? The reward is a batting cage. IMO, that ruins the experience for kids. If these are the accommodations the kids get, then something needs to change.
  2. He had 12 days from the start of classes to transfer to UK or he had to sit out this year. He made that deadline so he will redshirt this year.
  3. Morehead State is a fine program and Brett was thankful for the opportunity to play there but it was not as good of a fit as he had thought. Brett's personal dream was to play for a big program and work hard to earn a scholarship, he realized this dream was still attainable and is going for it.
  4. Brett is leaving Morehead State and walking on at UK. He will also be switching positions to safety.
  5. Got the years mixed up. The 2004 team made the state tournament before losing to Trinity in the first round, Wera and Sickmeier led those teams. The 2005 lost on a walk off HR in the regional championship to CCH and the senior class was Hoffman, Slusher and Alford. The 2006 team was led by Curley, Sawyer, Muth, Elliot and Chas Moore and they were the state runners-up that year. IMO, the 2006 team was better
  6. The 06 team was the runner up, Curly, Sawyer and Elliot lead that team. The 04 team lost in the quarter finals to Trinity, Wera, Muth and the elder Slusher were seniors.
  7. Game was part of the Reds Showcase at Campbell County. Fieger started for the Tigers and went the distance. Rowe had an RBI single in the first and Brayden Combs immediately followed with another Homerun to put the Tigers ahead 3-0. They were held scoreless until the last frame when Stringer walked, Slusher singled, Combs was intentionally walked and Senior Ryan Bankemper hit a grand slam. Tigers are now 27-6.
  8. Very strange, didn't sound like anyone in the stands said anything about it. You would think someone would have yelled something.
  9. Stringer got the start for the the Tigers and went 6 innings, giving up 1 earned run and Huesman got the save with a scoreless 7th. Stringer also drove in two runs at the plate, one of them being a solo shot, his 3rd, to lead off the home half of the first. Rowe also drove in a run with an RBI triple in the sixth and was immediately followed by a 2 run shot by Brayden Combs. I didn't get the young mans name that threw for Boone but he pitched a great game for the Rebels. He did a great job of mixing up off speed pitches to keep the Tigers guessing all night. Unfortunately, he ran out of gas in the sixth that led to the Tigers pulling ahead. Tigers are now 26-6 and scheduled to take on Walton-Verona tomorrow afternoon
  10. Rowe had 3 of the 4 RBIs. Homer in the first (his 8th), a double in the fourth and a single in the sixth.
  11. Beechwood wins it in the bottom of the 8th on a passed ball. Fieger started and went 6+, Slusher pitched the last two and picked up the win. Slusher also went 2-3 at the plate with a HR and a pair of RBIs. Rowe, Stringer, Castleman and Soward all produce run scoring hits during the game. Crazy as it sounds, the player of the game had to be courtesy/pinch runner Daniel Mescher. He scored three runs, including the game winner, and stole at least 4 bases. Tigers advance to the championship game later this afternoon against the winner of Hazard vs Somerset.
  12. Game was played at Florence today. Nick Jackman started for the Tigers and Doty started for the Birds. Both guys didn't look like the had great stuff tonight but they both battled. Brayden Combs led off the scoring with a solo shot to right, his third homer of the season, in the 2nd and it was a no-doubter. Highlands was able to push a run across in the third after a walk, two balls in the dirt and a run scoring ground out to short. The wheels fell off for the Birds in the third and BW erupted for 7 runs. Beechwood loaded the bases and senior Kyle Rowe hit a 2 RBI single up the middle. Combs followed with his second homer of the night, and fourth of the season, a 3-run shot that skimmed the wall in right. Beechwood loaded the bases again and junior Trevor Soward doubled down the left field line, scoring two. Beechwood would score 4 more runs in the fourth behind an RBI triple by Combs, taking a 12-1 lead. Senior Ryan Bankemper pitched two shutout innings to close it out and mercy rule the Birds.
  13. Fieger came out for beechwood to start and Schwartz came out for CCH. Beechwood came out very flat and the Colonels struck first in the top of the third where they scored 3 runs on two hits and three errors. Beechwood was able to push one across in the bottom half to make it 4-3 CCH after three. Fieger settled in and allowed 1-2 hits for the rest of the game. The game moved along until the Tigers bats woke up in the sixth, scoring 4 runs. The big hits were by Noah Huseman and freshman Dylan Doverspike. Fieger came out in the seventh, allowed a leadoff hit but was able to sit down the next three colonels. I believe the pitchers for CCH were Schwartz, Armstrong and Pitzer.
  14. Brett Slusher is finally back and hit a HR his first plate appearance.
