Stealing Signs from Second Base
Why is it considered dirty? I always thought it was part of a team's strategy.

Do a better job of giving signs, I say.
Also doesn't mean you can't get dotted for attempting it.

ESPN the Mag is coming out with a stor about Toronto stealing signs from the outfield and flashing signals to the batter.
That crosses the line.
If it's the runner on 2nd base stealing them that's a "you" problem.

I agree, kind of cheap to do it from center field with binoculars. As far as showing a sign from 2nd, I say get some new signs. It's not that difficult, really.

I don't see anything wrong with stealing signs from second base. Makes the pitcher and catcher work a little harder. I do take issues with binnoculars from center.

Home: 78 HR
Away: 68 HR
- Aug 11, 11, 09:01 PM #12
For 2011:
Home: 48 games, 209 plate appearances, 16 home runs (1 home run per 13.06 PA)
Road: 57 games, 256 plate appearances, 17 home runs (1 home run per 15.06 PA)
For 2010:
Home: 81 games, 335 plate appearances, 33 home runs (1 home run per 10.15 PA)
Road: 80 games, 348 plate appearances, 21 home runs (1 home run per 16.57 PA)
Seems he obviously hits at a better pace at home than on the road, but I would think a difference of 3+/- would be about right for home/away. The difference of 6 in 2010 is a little large, but it seems more like an outlier, a one year statistical anomaly that is back into line this season.Last edited by gchs_uk9; Aug 11, 11 at 09:27 PM.

^ Check out the splits for Carlos Gonzalez. His home numbers are out of this world compared to his away.

Still, what was the gap on Bruce's numbers last year? It had to be just as wide. I just think this whole debate is goofy. We all know how superstitious and wacky many baseball players are. They find excuses and superstitions anywhere and everywhere to make excuses for their performance or lack thereof.
