Reds @ Braves series (4/30 - 5/3/15)

Page 6 of The Braves have been hitting ok, but their pitching has been terrible. Their pitching was supposed to be what kept them in games. Advertisement Apr 30,... 107 comments | 2460 Views | Go to page 1 →

The Red's bench players have undoubtedly the worst numbers in all of baseball. If you count Mesoraco who has become a designated pinch hitter they are a combined 14 for 103 with 2 HRS and 2 RBIs. That's a whopping .103 average and both HRs and RBIs are by Barnhart. There is no good reason to start any of these guys any day.

Spoken just like Johnny B. Baker. Schumaker lifetime versus Teheran 1 for 2. Woohoo! Great sample size.

Reds limp quietly out of Atlanta into Pittsburgh. A whopping 4 hits today in the shutout loss. Wouldn't be surprised to see them get swept by the Bucos.

No fire from this team at all. Cozart gets hit in the first inning and no fire from anyone at all. Instead of plunking one of theirs Cueto gives up a softball to right center.

How about the Braves up 5 with one out to go and a pitching change, lol.

What are you talking about? Meso didn't take Dominguez's spot. Dominguez took the last roster spot. Barnhart took Dominguez's spot. As far as DeJesus we'll never know.

Cueto is usually money. It does seem to me that teams do hit him a little better in day games?? Did he get an extra day rest this week or something that may have thrown him off(looking for excuses, lol)

I think the point ( and confirmed by Price) is that Meso is assuming the role of a pinch hitter with pop right now instead of being on the DL and that is the role Chris D was fulfilling. Very few ABs and only used when runners are base.....that sort of thing. Then with the Reds playing 8 games in AL parks and needing a DH that role will go to Meso and probably would have gone to Chris D at least some of the time. So Reds "in theory" are not playing short-handed by having a player that can only pinch hit.

    Thank you FD23.

Back to my question - would those complaining about Mesoraco's handling rather have Dejesus or Dominguez on the roster instead of Mesoraco? Would either of those two have played any more or done more than Mesoraco?

I said basically the same thing. This Reds team is "soft".

I'm not familiar with Meso's injury, but I'm guessing that he can't injure hisself further by batting? And that this hip thing won't get better with rest? Because this, to me is insane. First of all, if he's having trouble squatting, how is he not having trouble generating power to swing from those same legs/hip he uses to squat with?

Without question, yes. This team sucks. You can't have a team with as little talent as the Reds and expect them to play a man down for a month. It's just asinine.
