    Don’t know.

How many players have put up the numbers Votto did this year?

The answer is 2...Some guys named Ruth and Williams.

Amazing thing about Votto is they pitched around him a lot. (see intentional walks). He still put up great numbers.

    I don't think that's true.

Not trying to be a smart aleck here, but what does that mean? I am honestly trying to learn how 1B is judged defensively. When I googled "1b defensive metrics 2017" I got this page 217 Major League Baseball Fielding Leaders | Baseball-Reference.com. When scrolling down:

    Putouts - Votto is #3
    Def. Games at 1B - #1 (100%)
Assists at 1B - #1 (but isn't that stat partially reliant on the Reds P being so god-awful that there were always runners on base? - it's a gross #, not a % of chances)
    Errors at 1B - Not in Top 5. #5 had 7. Votto had 4.
    DP at 1B - not in Top 5. #5 had 112. Votto had 109
Total Zone Runs at 1B (no idea what this is) - #3
    Range Factor/9Inn as 1B - Not in Top 5
    Range Factor/Game as 1B - #5
    Fielding % as 1B - #2

So Goldschmidt won the Silver Slugger for NL 1B last night....

And then I saw this just now...

    PA: Votto
    BB%: Votto
    K%: Votto
    BA: Votto
    OBP: Votto
    SLG: Votto
    OPS: Votto
    wRC+: Votto
    Singles: Votto
    Doubles: Tie
    HRs: Tie
    RBI: Goldschmidt
    BA RISP: Votto
    SB: Goldschmidt
    BsR: Goldschmidt

I guess they put a LOT of weight on SB and RBI....

Paul Goldschmidt is not unworthy. Joey Votto was tops in many defensive metrics, but Goldschmidt was often second. Those metrics are not exact, just educated guesses.

This is where I got my info.

Huh? How can that be? If #5 had 7 errors, and Joey had 4, that pretty much puts him in at least the top 4 in my book.

He looked at the most errors. It's good JDV is not in the top 5 then.

Votto and Goldschmidt both had 4 errors at 1B. That is the second fewest for qualifying NL 1B (Rizzo only had 3). Votto had more chances.

Votto had 1 error every 349 chances.
Goldy had 1 error every 340.25 chances.

Votto had the most assists of any NL 1B. 62 more than Goldy.

Votto had the best DWAR among qualified NL 1B.

Joseph Daniel Votto was well deserving of being in the Gold Glove race.

Total joke that Votto did not win the SS award...
