Length of game has no effect on me. I'm going and I'm watching it to the end. If people want to leave early so be it. I will never be for shortening the game of baseball innings wise. I feel they want to do things to cut time other ways then I am okay with that.

If they want to speed the game up then make the batters stay in the box without stepping out and adjusting batting gloves and the eight pads that they wear on every single pitch .... give the umpires back the game and quit going upstairs every single inning to look at a call that the umpires got right to begin with ... this interferes with the flow of the game as much as anything ... changing it to 7 innings is rediculous .... there is a lot of things they could do to speed the games up before you do a drastic change like that ..

There aren't reviews every inning, not all batters go through the routines you mention or wear 8 pads. While these things happen, it's not all the time, every batter, every inning. There are lots of reasons games go long, and the things you mentioned are exceptions rather than than rule and likely only add couple minutes here and there to games. The fact that baseball doesn't have a clock is the biggest reasons games go long. There's no incentive or reason for players to speed up, and with the strategy involved in every pitch, especially with runners on base, the game naturally moves at a slow pace. And with the evolution of hitters working more counts and taking more pitches, the morefrequent pitching changes and substitutions, the game has slowed down even more over recent years. Only the introduction of a pitch clock and limiting tv timeouts (which ain't happening)will improve pace. And quite honestly, most won't notice the difference between a 3 hour game and a 2.5 hour game. Shaving 3 minutes off every inning (1.5/team/half inning) would save almost a half hour, and I'm betting most wouldn't notice. People will still leave early.

NBA is talking of that but don't see it happening because of money.
NFL has talked of lengthening their season to 18 games.

And I hate the idea of putting a runner on 2nd. This isn't softball

As ATM said the NFL is a perfect example. Changing rules about tackling/hits. For years they've been making it easier for the offense because fans like points.

The consumer drives decisions made by the leagues.

They are not cutting back from 4 quarters. Some have mentioned going to 7 innings and one talked about only playing 4 days a week.

I don't think they should shorten the games. I do think shortening the season would create more interest.

Or make the first half of the season meaningful. Allow teams who are in first place at the all star break clinch a playoff spot. This creates more interest for the first half of the year. Plus could keep fans interested still for who's teams may have had a bad first half because their team could still make it by winning the division the second half. So 6 teams make it in both leagues. If the same team won it in both the first half and second half of the season. Then the team with the best record for the year would make it.
