I have read the slot position is worth $7.193 million and the Refs structured their bonus pool money to give him $7.245m without incurring a fee. My understanding they have already offered that making his the highest signing bonus since the bonus pool restrictions went into effect in 2012. He just hasn't signed it yet. Not sure what he wants.

But if he doesn't sign, the Reds still would get the #3 pick next year. But no way he plays amateur ball for at least another year.

Why would they draft a guy and not plan to pay him basically what the slot value is. That makes no sense. The money is there. It should get done.

Agreed on everything. I see no way he doesn't sign for around that amount.

Thats alot of slot money for an 18 year old. Didnt realize it was that high when drafted him. Especially for a guy that doesn't have a set position.

They knew exactly what to expect when drafting him. You think you were caught off guard about the money? They planned their entire draft around it and having enough money saved in the later rounds to make it possible to sign him.

They would get the #3 pick AND whatever their 2018 pick would naturally be as well. Not sure how the signing pool would be impacted by having 2 very high picks (assuming the Reds don't catch fire in the 2nd half of the season ).

He would be foolish not to sign over a couple hundred grand. He will make that back in endorsements alone. He will drag it out and sign around 3.

@JimcallisMLB: Greene gets $7.23 mil from @Reds. Slot was $7,193,200 at No. 2. Highest bonus ever in bonus pool era. @MLBDraft

I got a bit worried at the end, but it went pretty much as expect down to the wire.

At least they got it done. Would have been a huge mistake and bad look if they didn't.
