How in the world did Ortiz survive? He was certainly blessed to even make it out of that club, much less making it to surgeries and then being labeled one to make a full recovery.

I have a friend who thought that Put-In-Bay was in the Dominican Republic and expressed concern for another of my friends visiting there.

The story I read was Ortiz was allegedly having an affair with a conspirator's wife. If true, not a god look for a "beloved" player but hey it takes two to Tango. Then I read yesterday the alleged gunman backtracks and states Ortiz wasn't supposed to be the target. Of course authorities don't believe his story because the gunman knows once he goes to a Dominican jail/prison, he probably won't last a month.

I just read this thread for the first time today. Now they are saying that Papi was shot in a case of mistaken identity. He looked like the guy and was dressed similarly to the guy who was supposed to be the target. Amazing that people jump to conclusions right away as heinous as "he was having an affair with a drug lord's wife or girl friend".

I was just in the DR last December and had a great time. I did stay in an all inclusive resort though. You go off the beaten path in the Caribbean and it can get dicey.

I read in the paper today that another American was died at a DR resort. A 55 year old NJ man died under mysterious circumstances at Terra Linda in Sousa. That country is looking like a scary destination these days.

I heard this morning that FBI is testing bottles from the mini bars at some resort, thinking poison or maybe homemade liqour put in bottles that has killed some.

The Dominican Attorney General now says that Ortiz wasn't the target of the shooting, but his cousin was. Shooter mistook Ortiz for his cousin.

Lots of twist to this, real truth may never come out.
