It gives them other options. There is no reason to play with a short roster for 15 days.

It's about having a guy on the bench that you can actually play. A team with a couple really solid bench players can afford to play a man down for a few games. Teams with marginal talent playing everyday can't. The Reds are the latter.
I agree they don't have a clue what's going on. I don't think putting him on the DL and bringing someone up makes them a better team though. Whoever they bring up is going to strictly be a PH too. As long as Mesoraco can't do further damage, I'm fine with him staying on the active roster due to the lack of options in Louisville

Four bench players or ten bench players, doesn't matter if you get the same results.

It's about having a guy available if needed. It's never beneficial to play with less options than your opponent. That's what they've been doing for 2+ weeks now. It's ridiculous.

If he's not able to PH, I would agree with you. He's likely to be the first PH each game so they don't put themselves in trouble in case the game goes into extra innings.

If Dominguez was still on the roster, how many innings do you think he would have been in the field after 18 games?

How about the other night when they didn't use him as the PH down one in the 9th? Instead we got Pena as the PH with the game on the line vs the Cardinals.

Your 1st paragraph is absolutely false. Price has already shown that's just not the case at all.

As to your 2nd, that's not the point, which I thought was obvious.

I would have put him on the DL from the beginning. I agree they were playing a man short in Chicago and St Louis. I believe the game you are referencing was when he was not even in the ball park. Now that he's able to PH, I'd rather have him at the plate (even with his current avg) than someone line Dominguez.

False? That's my opinion on how I would handle it. Whoever they bring up is not going to see the field so why does it matter if the 25th guy is Mesoraco or someone from Louisville

Is this real life? People are seriously arguing that it's more beneficial to the Reds to be playing with 24 guys, than a full 25....

If the game goes extra innings they are putting themselves in trouble by having one less player able to play the field.

    That's not what I'm arguing

As long as Mes can pinch hit, I do not consider it playing a man down.

If they DL Mes, what role is the player from Louisville going to be -- strictly a PH. Unfortunately, that is what Mes is stuck doing right now. Would you rather the 25th guy be Mesoraco or someone like Dominguez. Are they really a stronger team with Dominguez?

Not if Mesoraco is used as the first PH off the bench.

The Reds are stronger with 5 guys on their bench that can play. Not 4 guys and a guy that can PH.

They are playing a man down anyway you slice it. They've been carrying 3 catchers for the past 15 days. Do you realize how absurdly dumb that is for a major league team?
