Guess we should have let my split ride.

I'll quote Dusty Baker - "I'm a strong man, and usually I get over hurts and it makes me stronger when I come back."

Any positive is the starting pitching except to many walks, bullpen not so much and offense has been horrendous. That's not mentioning fundamentals. The outfield except for Puig is 0 for.

Saw that our leadoff hitters are batting a big 0 on the season so far too.

    2018: 1-4 record, 1 loss by 1 run
    2019: 1-4 record, 3 losses by 1 run

    Pitching comparison thru 5 games...

    2018
    Staff: 44 innings 39 hits 23 walks 25 earned runs 5.11 ERA
    Starters: 27.2 innings 22 hits 13 walks 14 earned runs 4.55 ERA
    Bullpen: 16.1 innings 17 hits 10 walks 11 earned runs 6.06 ERA

    2019
    Staff: 45 innings 35 hits 31 walks 15 earned runs 3.00 ERA
    Starters: 24.2 innings 17 hits 17 walks 8 earned runs 2.92 ERA
    Bullpen: 20.1 innings 18 hits 14 walks 7 earned runs 3.10 ERA

I know there are people ready to jump ship and pronounce this season as a repeat of last year and a total loss...but, I'm not. Not one week into the season.

An ERA a full 2 runs less than last year? Who in the world wouldn't be jumping for joy over that? Plus they've only given up 2 HR's so far (best in the NL)!! Compare that to last year (when they were the worst in the league), when they gave up 1.4 HR per GAME.

Now I'm not saying we're going to the playoffs or anything like that. But, for people who just look at the record and say "oh, they lost again...it's a repeat of the past", there's reasons to be encouraged...you just have to be willing to dig a little deeper.

Those walks are a concern. I think there is a case of the try too hards going on. They all need to relax and play baseball.
