The Lady Colonels headed south to Louisville on Saturday to take on the the Lady Crimsons of duPont Manual. It was a hard fought match that found the Lady Crimsons on top by a score of 1-0. It was nil-nil at halftime with the Crimson offense tilting the field slightly downhill for their advantage. Very early in the second half, a controversial call by the AR erased a go ahead goal by the Lady Colonels. A Crimson defender tow pokes a 50/50 ball in the arc with a fully extended leg, falling backward on her own momentum and tripping a Lady Colonel striker. The toe poke went to a trailing striker who put the ball inside the corner of the frame. The AR sees that the defender fell and calls a foul on the striker. The Lady Crimson get the game winner on an excellently chipped cross to a one-timer volley inside the far side of the frame for the one shot that the Dixie keeper just couldn't get to. Dixie Heights dug deep in the last quarter of the game to turn up the pressure and put the Lady Crimson on their heels, who were desperately hanging on to keep the one goal lead. With several good opportunities, the Lady Colonels just couldn't find the back of the net. While a disappointing result, it was a great effort against a top team in the state. The Lady Crimson's offense is very fast and very skilled.
This week begins 34th District play for the Lady Colonels with a Monday match vs the St. Henry Lady Crusaders at Dixie Heights.
