The Owens kid at Scott County is pretty darn good. I saw them play a few times. Can flat out play and is 1 of 4 averaging double digits and leading her team. Seems to have to defend best guard most nights too. Can do a little of everything. Can shoot it but strong all around player. Watched her have a big game against Lincoln in that loss. Big time player.

Yes, Wheeler has Painter, but Schwartz has a better supporting cast to take away some of the defense focus. Having Sheer & Crittenden takes a lot of the focus and pressure away from Schwartz.

Boyd has played the #1, #2 and #3 team in West Virginia and they play #1 again.

Highlands, Russell, Mercer, Dixie - these are not bad teams.

Wheeler put up 40+ against Ryle

Ryle may have had a tougher schedule, but Boyd has played a tough enough schedule that shouldn't take away from Wheeler's stats.

In their one game head-to-head, Schwartz shot 21 shots and had 25 points. Wheeler had 23 shots and had 40 points. They both had 8 rebounds and Boyd won.

I don't know that I could pick between the two. They have both had great years and are putting up amazing numbers! In my opinion, either one would be a good choice for the award. Owens from Scott County is a good choice as well.

How does a player as good as Painter shoot less than half the shots Wheeler does.

    Somethings not right here...
What's not right here is you analysis. First, are you suggesting that Boyd County is a bad team? Second, Should the Wheeler family have packed up and moved to Louisville to play for Butler/Male/Sacred Heart etc. so the strength of schedule could have been better? Boyd county is in Eastern Kentucky! C'mon Man! When they did play Ryle, what happened(Boyd County victory for the uninformed)? Also, I think you saw last year that Mykassa Robinson wasn't mentioned as a top candidate for Miss Basketball even though she had a great year in a remote part of the state(same part of the state as Wheeler). Who's contributing more now at Louisville?(nothing against Robins who is a great player as well)

Third, Selfish??? While Paynter is a great player, Wheeler has higher percentages in two point, three point, free throws and more rebounds per game(from the point). Isn't that the player you want with the ball in her hands? Brings the ball up the court every time. Assists and Steals aren't listed, but I guarantee Wheeler is dominant in these categories. Oh, and she gets to the free throw line over 10 times/game, which kinda helps when the opposition has to throw their best defender on her to try to contain her. You called her one dimensional in an earlier post. That's far from realistic. Implying Wheeler is selfish is flat out wrong.

Boyd lost to Ashland Blazer by 17 without Wheeler. With Wheeler, they beat Blazer by 26.

Schwartz is great, but for my money Wheeler is easily the biggest impact player in the state right now. Take Schwartz away from Ryle, you still have a top ten team. Take Wheeler away from Boyd, you would be hard pressed to have them in the top twenty five.

Jason Frakes has listed who he thinks are the top 5 candidates. Interestingly, he has named two girls from Louisville who have gotten little, if any, mention in this thread. They are Nina Blackford of Manual (Kent State) and Cameron Browning of Male (Belmont). He has also listed Emma King of Lincoln County, Maaliya Owens of Scott County and Savannah Wheeler of Boyd County. I don't follow the girls game too much but my question is, do theLouisville girls have a chance to be Miss Basketball?

Here is a "nomination" from today:

As the 2019 KY Miss Basketball ballot is released today, we ask you to please consider Nila Blackford from duPont Manual High School. Nila has committed to play at Kent State University next season. During her career, she has helped lead us to two 7th region championships resulting in a sweet 16 and elite 8 appearance, and one 7th region runner-up. Nila became a member of the 1,000 career point club earlier this season and currently stands at 1,352 points and 851 career rebounds. She has been named to numerous all-tournament teams throughout her career and was a member of the KY Junior All-Stars last year. Nila is also a strong presence in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA. I have attached a glimpse of her accomplishments below. We appreciate your consideration!!

Good luck to all in the post-season!

    And another:

With the Miss KY Basketball nomination coming out this morning please consider Lauren Schwartz from Ryle High School, a Division 1 commit to Rice University and a Gatorade Player of the year Candidate for Kentucky. Lauren has helped our team to a current record of 22-4 and ranked among the top 3 teams in the State. As a team we have played top ranked teams in the Kentucky and neighboring states and Lauren has been able to have consistent stats while playing this tough schedule. She is an incredible young lady on and off the court, being involved in multiple clubs at school, maintaining a high GPA, and supporting her community through service. I have attached a “snapshot” of her numerous accomplishments over her career as a Lady Raider, along with a link to a short video of senior highlights for those of you who may never have had the pleasure to see her play in person.

Emma King was the player named from the 12th Region in the final listing and her credentials are excellent. However is any player in the state playing better at this time than Ivy Turner at Danville? Maaliya Owens, Savannah Wheeler, Emma King, Lauren Schwartz, Nila Blackford, etc. have all had excellent campaigns and the decision will be extremely difficult this year.
