If she showed up at NewCath I can GUARANTEE she would be on the mound.

Lol! Thanks but she is willing to play anywhere. She loves the game, just not the mind games.

Well don't end up at NCC then!!! That's what Lawnboy is all about!!
Just kidding! I'm a Highlands boy and I have to keep them down every chance I get!! I have a daughter the plays bball and softball and I surely don't want her to have to face her every year to get out of the district! bball or softball. Our district doesn't seed!!! Think they might be changing that for softball now.
And Lawnboy is a good man!

Heard that it is definite that the Smith girl will be going to ND. If so that is a good choice of schools. Good luck and best wishes to her for a great high school experience. Hopefully she will be happy with her choice and very successful in both academics and athletics.

I also heard it's a done deal - ND. She will have to sit for a year no matter where she goes.

Sit out a year? Doubt it. Very rare.

Only two ways around it that I can think of is moving or citing "special circumstances."

And from all I have heard and read, "special circumstances" would seem to be the way to go, but I do not know that for sure. Is there a public vs private school issue here that could make her eligable? Don't know just asking the question. Anyway, I wish her the best of luck and hope she does not have to sit out a year. If she is eligable this year ND will definitely contend for a regional title in both basketball and softball.

Public v Private never comes into consideration.

Thanks Clyde. I didn't think so but I knew a kid that transfered from a private school to a public school and was declared eligable immediatley on a "hardship" case. I understood that one with todays economy and all, but didn't know if there was any argument for the reverse. Couldn't think of any so thought I would ask the question.

It's asked a lot. KHSAA members are KHSAA members - public or private.

Really curious to hear if this girl is eligible this year. Just do not see how it can occur, "special circumstances" or not. From all I have read there is an issue with the softball coaches in regards to the position being played on the field as well as what appears to be some personality conflicts between the parents/player and the coaches. Obviously there is probably more to the story that we are not always privy to, but I just do not see how the KHSAA makes this player eligible.

Lots of loopholes to circumvent the transfer rules. KHSAA really needs to wise up, because right now, it's way to easy to jump ship.

There is FAR more to the story than what you have heard. The position she played was NEVER the issue. She gets her looks by colleges in the summer, minimal if any during HS except at state tourney. So since she is multiple position player, we even told the coach at the beginning of the year if they needed her somewhere else then put her there. She just wanted to make it back to state.

What about when the kid doesn't want to have to transfer but because of his/her well being it has to be done? They need to wise up there or maybe it's another group that should wise up.....

My opionion would be if it's sports related (diagreement with coaches, not playing the correct position, playing time, hard nosed coach, etc), then the penalty should apply.
If it's off the court/field (bullied, disrepected, verbal abuse, etc), then a player should be allowed to transfer without penalty.
School are there for education purposes, not a pleasant high school athletic experience. Now I'm sure they want the best overall experience for their students and sports is a part of that, however, the rules should still apply, with some "special circumstances" that are outside of just sports.
I have no idea what the reason is, just stating what I would feel would be allowable "special circumstances".

SoftballFan , there is plenty of precedent for a special circumstances transfer waiver here. I encourage you to do a little research.

Those "special circumstances" listed in your opinion for transfer approval can occur on the court/field also. But I am in agreement 100% on reasons above on why transfer should be approved or not approved.
