Marion Co.’s Goodin-Rogers commits to UK women

Marion County High School’s Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, an all-state girls’ basketball player who was formerly committed to the University of Louisville, made a new commitment to the University of Kentucky on Tuesday during an unofficial visit to the school, her coach said.

Goodin-Rogers, a 6-foot-1 forward who’s ranked as a top-75 prospect nationally, committed to UK coach Matthew Mitchell after meeting with him in Lexington, Marion County coach Trent Milby said.

Goodin-Rogers, whose father is former Louisville player Tick Rogers, committed to U of L after her sophomore year but withdrew that pledge in early June, Milby said. She then chose the Wildcats primarily over Middle Tennessee State and Ohio State, according to the coach.

Milby said Goodin-Rogers, who averaged 13.4 points and 9.1 rebounds last season for the state runner-up, likes Kentucky’s style of play and educational opportunities. He said she is a combination small forward/power forward who can play in the post or score from long range.

Goodin-Rogers was the first of two Marion County seniors to withdraw commitments to Louisville this summer. The other, guard Makayla Epps, who backed out of her commitment last month, is now considering the Cardinals and UK, where her father, Anthony, played.

Milby said Makayla Epps – also a nationally ranked prospect – plans to unofficially visit UK on Monday.
