I was at the Cĺark/Bracken game last night and I don't understand all the criticism of Cummins. She did a little of everything and was doubled all night.

Hold on a minute, first this is a 10th region thread and your addressing 9th region players. Have you watched any 9th region games to make this type of comment Davenport NCC and Johnson Beechwood trust me I've watched a lot of 9th region and 10th region games this year and they are not only the best players on their current teams but would be the 1 of the top players if not the top player on any of the above teams you've listed. I would go as far as saying that they would also be the one of the top if not the top player on Campbell County or Mason County teams as well and yes I've watched both Campbell and Mason multiple times this year as well. If you want to by by stats then check out Johnson's shooting percentage 48% on 2point, 47.7 from 3point, 89.9 Ft. so if she is getting shut down I don't know who is doing it. If I'm coaching Beechwood I'm telling her to shoot more..
I would of course disagree with your assessment. Not sure why you bring up stats, that's really the whole point. Putting up great stats against bad teams doesn't prove anything really. What are Johnsons AAU stats? Doesn't she play in that with other top players? Is she the top player on those teams? What colleges have offered her? What have been her stat lines against Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA? Your welcome to your opinion but IMHO she is not a top player on any of the best 9th region teams, and certainly not on MC or Campbell. And yes I have seen her and others play.

Again, as I've said, great player, I'm sure a great kid. Wish her best success. And she deserves to be in the conversation for POY, but IMO others are better.

I apologize for allowing this discussion to have so much 9th region talk.

    My 10th senior POY are

    Cummins
    Jolly
    Schulz
    Kramer

Man oh man some people on here need to relax before they make their blood pressure sky rocket! I will give you credit to being so loyal to your teams, but your loyalty has made you blind! And never would I say since it's a "senior award" they should take it as a slap in the face because the other classes cannot win. It's a great honor to even be nominated for this award, and I'm sure the winner will be humbled and overwhelmed with excitement. And let's not forget we are talking about teenage girls, so stop being so harsh!

As for answering the question as to who should get it I think it's clear, Bailey Cummins. For all the diehard Campbell and Mason fans, I don't think either team has a "Boley", but overall they are both solid teams. No one has ever denied that, but not all accolades should go your way. Bailey has been a consistent producer and a top player through her high school years, and you can't deny her because her team isn't a top team.

So you would be the person that would say Whitney Creech deserves Miss Basketball because she scored the most points and has better stats instead of Erin Boley who has a good chance to be a State Champion and will be attending Notre Dame in the fall.

Never once did I say that. I'm sorry if you feel that Mason or Campbell has a Boley, but they do not. Boley without a doubt deserves miss basketball, and I've said that from the beginning. We aren't dealing with that situation here at all. Put Bailey against any of your options and I'll pick her to win 9 out of 10 times. She is the best overall pick for this award.

Wow! Reading through this makes me think that noone can be fair about other team's players.

Yes, I'm a 9th region guy and I bleed HHS blue, but I'm very familiar with all the teams and players being mention in this thread. And for those that say "go away, this is a 10th region thread", well you guys brought the 9th into this!

Hmmmm...where do I start. First, for those of you that think the people that are suggesting that us 9th supporters are looking at POY as the statistical leader only is insulting. I can speak for myself when I say stats are a part of it, but there is sooo much more to basketball than stats. An most of the time I could care less what a kids stats are. I look at what kind of bball player they are. Let me start by saying this...I am an HHS fan. Johnson and Davenport would be the best player on our team right now. Period. I'll also say that they would be the best player on any team in the 9th...with the exceptions of maybe HC (McClendon), ND (Martin) and maybe Cooper (Held). Those are really the only ones that would have a fighting chance in a debate. All the others being mentioned are very good, but not as good as those kids. Johnson and Davenport would start on any team in the 9th and the 10th. Sorry to disappoint you!

And the Creech/Boley comparison has no place here. Noone has anyone close to Boley and Beechwood and NCC's schedules are WAAAAAAYYYYYY better than Jenkins. So lets put that argument to rest now.

First Johnson. She is a 5'9" PG. She plays excellent defense and has an extremely high bball IQ. She plays on a team with 7 players and no size and they stay competitive with all the big teams. They may run out of gas late, but ask most of those teams if they felt 100% sure they were going to win mid way thru the 3rd qtr. There is a reason for that. Every time you play Beechwood, your game plan includes stopping Johnson. That means that all 5 kids on the court knows where she is at all times. And you know what the great thing is about her, is she knows how to get others involved, so her team still remains competitive when she doesn't score. So lets talk AAU, since you brought it up. Ally plays "up" a grade in AAU for a very good Cincy Swish team that is full of college commits. And yes, she starts for that team. She is also being recruited by several D1 schools. What players on your list are going D1 or even dare to play up a level in AAU??? So I'd have to say the college coaches tend to agree that she's a great player. She is the on the POY list because she is that good. Not because she plays for a small school with a weak schedule and pads her stats. And plus her stats aren't bad.

Davenport...How soon we forget that she started at NCC as a freshman when NCC was still loaded with talent. She started on the NCC team that won the region just two years ago and lost by 2 to Butler...the state champion that year. Outside of that game, Butler didn't have a game the rest of the tournament under a double digit win. She also has a great bball IQ and makes everyone better around her. She is also the focus of every player when your team plays her. She is tough to guard because she is lightening fast and has an outside and inside (floater) game. Let me put it to you this way for you 10th folks. She went to St Mary grade school and chose to go to NCC instead of Brossart. If she would have went to Brossart, this region would be talking about the big 3 instead of just two. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they would have become the favorite. She would change the dynamics of that team tremendously!

I love all the Camel players...some of my favorite kids all time. Coached several of them. And I have always loved this Mason team. But to think that these two players wouldn't start for your respective teams is ludicrous. They would start for any team in the 9th and 10th and would be in consideration for POY in both regions.

Okay, back to your regular scheduled programming!

When Bracken faces top competition Baileys stats are limited, percentages are lower (these type of players just shoot more than anyone else). The Beechwood girl has the same thing happen. I think the 9th has it worse. The top players on NCC and Beechwood are not nearly as good players as the top players on Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA's teams.
That's a pretty bold statement and if memory serves me right Davenport dropped 35 on the team that beat Holmes by 9. Please tell me why the best players on NCC and Beechwood are not nearly as good as the ones on Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA's I like to hear your answer? I will be waiting.

    Lange
    Jump
    Leigh
    Adler
    J.martin
    Saner
    D.mclendon

I've seen all these girls play over multiple seasons including AAU ball (which I think separates out players better because it's an equal playing field). College interest level would agree with me on this list also. Because these 11 girls play on better school teams against better competition shouldn't mean they don't get POY honors, it should go to the best all-around player. Just to be super clear, I think Davenport and Johnson are excellent players and surely great kids. There's just 11 other 9th region players is rather have on my team before them.

In keeping with the 10th - forgot it was a senior only thing. In that case Bailey Cummins is a front runner because she's possibly the best player in her grade. Schulz, Kramer and Jolly should be considered as well, but Bailey is likely a better overall player than those three.

Why is naming names here bad? If my daughter was mentioned in a POY thread (even if people were saying why she shouldn't get the award) I'd think she would be honored.
They play better competition please explain and also you mention overall player you may want to rethink your 11 and not to put Davenport or Johnson in there is ridiculous.

Once again this is a 10th region conversation. I believe there is a thread started for the 9th region so continue that conversation over there. Let's focus on the topic at hand please. Who are your top 5 candidates?

Saying that Cummins could beat any player on Mason or Campbell's team 9/10 times head to head is a pretty bold statement. She might win a couple of times, but it sure as heck wouldn't be dominate by any means. O'Mara, Clos, Frodge, and Jolly could all give her a run for her money.

I guess my only question to all people replying to this thread is this,"What colleges are looking at these upper class players?" Based on all around stats.....Points,assist,steals,blocks,and rebounds. You better do your homework and dig a little deeper because the young one and everyone knows the young one does it all.....End of discussion

Geez another "end of discussion" statement without any facts or basis.
