The finalists have been released. It looks like there are 11 kids on the list.

Rondale Moore of Trinity, Dmauriae Vancleave of Danville and AJ Mayer are on the list. No surprise there at all to see those three are finalists.

    Tyrese Allen-Paintsville
    Justin Blackburn-Ludlow
    Jairus Brents-Waggener
    Kam Butler-Covington Catholic
    Jake Chisholm-Ryle
    Blake Gamble-Johnson Central
    Trevor Grant-Graves County
    Matt Shearer-Simon Kenton

A couple things stand out to me...
    1. When did they start nominating 11 guys for the award? It seems like it use to be 4 or 5 at most.
    2. Where is the QB from Trinity at on this list? He would seem to be a more deserving candidate than a few names on this list.

Shearer had better stats than Mayer if your going by stats.

Mayer played about 2/3 of the snaps that Shearer played

My vote would go to VanCleave. His importance to his team would probably be the deciding factor for me.

CCH wins without Mayer at QB? Seems like he was just as important to his team. Not taking anything away from VanCleave; splitting hairs.
