I believe they will be PreSeason number 1 in many polls. That's pretty green to me.

UT was one the ledge when Kiffin got there. He just pushed them off. Dooley is keeping them from climbing back up the ledge.

Congrats to the kid. With his talents he needed to get out of the state of Kentucky to play college ball. Maybe Louisville will be back in the national picture but no time soon.

At what point in a team in the national picture? When the are a Top 25 team? If Strong sticks around, I don't think it will be too long before UofL is back in the Top 25 pretty consistently. UofL fans need to hope UT does well enough to keep Dooley around because I would not be surprised if Strong would not make the list of coaches they would consider.

Maybe I am too high on Strong but I think he has UofL going the right direction.

Agreed on your overall point. Coach Strong said today his biggest challenge is the uncertainly of the BE and how it hampers recruiting. He said every recruit mentions it.

Largely a UL problem of their own doing. When you shout as loud as possible that you are on the next flight out of town, you better not be flying standby...

That's fair but the better teams in the league are going to be faced with this issue if you're fighting for top-tier recruits.

The same issues are there for every school not in the 10 or so elite programs...

Nowhere near to what UL will encounter.

Which is an issue of their own doing. UC recruiting is unchanged if not on an upswing since the departures. Can't be both ways...

My comment was aimed at recruiting the 4* and 5* players who have options with some of the elite that you mention. UC is getting good players without question and Butch IMO will keep raising the bar. He just isn't in the final 2 with the best of the best yet.

I have that sense about Strong too. How UL fares this season will give us a much better indication either way.

They can't get elite 4 and 5 star guys because they are Louisville, not because they are in the Big East. The conference thing is the talking point because they won't shut up about getting out while no one wants to add them. They have made that their own crutch...

Overall, I agree. However, it's still something he has to deal with in those rare cases where he's in on a kid like that and his conference is not helping the cause.

To land SEC level recruits you are best off, you know, coaching in the SEC...

And just maybe he isn't going to talk about the same kids that are concerned UL only went 7-6 in each of his first two years and only managed one split conference title. If they were 12-1 or 11-2 and dominating the conference would it be mentioned? Highly unlikely.

Let's see how many of those elite kids Strong is in on when the hammer finally falls on the bag man from Miami. That isn't going to be a Big East issue either...

If top 25 is your goal then so be it but it is not a goal for a top flight team. Being in the national picture is not just being in the top 25. I think you know what I meant.

You said Louisville will be BACK in the national picture no time soon. So if being a consistent top 25 team like UofL was under Petrino doesn't qualify as being in the national picture, when was UofL in the national picture? I would say a team like UofL that was a given to be in the top 25 year after year and one of those years made the BCS, would be a team in the national picture.

IMO national picture is a chance to win a championship. They had a couple of years to do that and they didn't get it done. Right back to the middle of the pack after that. Your ideal of national picture and mine are different and I respect that.
