Trinity High School, Kentucky’s 25-time football state champion, announces its 2018 varsity football schedule (The freshman and JV schedules will be announced in early spring).
The schedule will feature top-caliber competition from Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The Shamrocks will enter the 2018 campaign as back-to-back Kentucky 6A state champions and currently hold a state leading 30 game winning streak.

The Football Rocks will host Kentucky’s Ryle High School on Friday, August 10 for a pre-season scrimmage game.

The schedule includes the rivalry game against cross-town foe St. Xavier High School on September 28 at PJCS. The game annually draws one of the largest crowds for a regular season high school football game in America.

Trinity will open the season in the Hoosier state as they travel to face the Carmel Greyhounds. Carmel advanced to the 2017 Indiana state semifinal round and was Indiana’s 2016 6A state champion. The Rocks will follow that game with their home opener against another Indiana power as Warren Central High School visits Marshall Stadium. The Warriors finished the 2017 season ranked #2 in Indiana, having gone toe to toe with Trinity earlier in the season in Indianapolis before falling to the Shamrocks 42-41.

The third game of the season will see Trinity traveling up I-71 to the always tough Cincinnati Moeller Crusaders. Moeller will welcome first year head coach Doug Rosfeld to their sideline. Next up is another home game with Male High School. The Shamrocks and the Bulldogs will continue what has become a very competitive rivalry between the teams. On Friday, September 14, the Rocks will host Naperville Central from Chicago, Illinois. The Redhawks are the 2000 and 2014 Illinois large school state champions. They finished 2017 as an Illinois state quarterfinalist. (An interesting footnote related to Naperville Central. . . Kenny Chesney’s Boys of Fall video documentary was filmed at Naperville Central, the high school alma mater of Chesney’s good friend Sean Payton, Head Coach of the NFL New Orleans Saints.)

Once the Shamrocks begin KHSAA district play, the team will have home games vs Jeffersontown High School and Ballard High School and away games versus Eastern High School and Seneca High School.

Director of Athletics Rob Saxton stated, “We look forward to completing the second year of “home-and-home” arrangements with such a strong set of opponents. The addition of Naperville Central, a football program rich with tradition in Illinois, makes the 2018 slate even more exciting. This level of competition will test and condition our team for what we hope is a season that concludes in early December at UK’s Kroger Field.”

Head coach Bob Beatty said, “Our coaches and players welcome and enjoy a challenging schedule such as this. We will dedicate much time, energy and focus in the off season in preparation for our opening game on the road against Carmel. Each season is filled with new opportunities and unknowns. We look forward to what 2018 brings to our team.”
