Breathitt is not a passing team but in this game they did go to the air a few times and was successful with a TD once but two other times had interceptions. Two of them gave Somerset good field position and they eventually got TD’s from them. However, I think the Bobcats put up a better fight than many thought h they would.

Somerset has a kid named Grundy that’s very impressive. As a matter of fact they’ve got several impressive players. Good team.

The Collins kid from Breathitt is very talented as well.

I know I’m posting stuff that most high school football followers already know about these players, lol. But I don’t see too many games. I watched this one on my iPhone .

Bobcats scored on the first two offensive plays that they ran. An 80 yard pass to a wide open receiver off of a fake Jet Sweep on the first play of the game. Then after forcing a punt, Collins got around the end and broke several tackles for a 83 yard TD run putting them up 13 to 0 before Somerset had broken a sweat.

Jumpers settle in after that and outscored the Bobcats 40 to 12 the rest of the way.

Breathitt has a fine team and Collins is outstanding.

    Congrats Briar Jumpers!!!

    From this week's 2A Notebook:

    "Prediction:
We still don't know who Breathitt is, but we are getting the picture and after this week we will know for sure. The Bobcats did prove they are a strong team by hammering Walton-Verona, but we still have not seen them play a team capable of beating them. Breathitt will enter with a fire in their belly and feeling dis-respected. Somerset has to know it is coming and have to be ready to rebound if Breathitt rides the momentum to an early lead. Somerset has been here before and knows what it takes to rally. Breathitt does not. If Somerset can pull ahead in the Second Half they will be hard to un-seat.

This game personifies why you should schedule a competitive bunch of non district games. Breathitt Co suffered greatly from playing nobody during the regular season. Can’t worry about your personal wins and make it all about your team.

There was no Collins at running back (or even enrolled at Breathitt) when this schedule was being made. Remember last year Breathitt was district champs but barely beat 1-win McCreary in the playoffs. I think their performance at Somerset last night wasnít that bad.

Breathitt had a perfect storm of transfers and kids improving tremendously. The schedule was made to pull them out of a hole, they have done that and more - far exceeding what was expected of them. Breathitt acquitted themselves very well and Collins is a stud RB who plays with a lot of grit.

Somerset has a lot of playmakers; tough for anybody to stop consistently. They have to have a much better game defensively to have a chance against Mayfield.

I will add this: There was a post by somebody on one of the sites (maybe this one) saying Collins will be the best player on the field by a long shot - I think as well as Collins played the best three players on the field were in purple - Kade Grundy, Kaiya Sheron and Jase Bruner.

Doesn’t make any difference about Collins, Breathitt Co should not be playing 8 man football vs Jenkins, playing Magoffin Co, and other weak opponents during regular season.

Give Breathitt County credit for making this game more competitive than most expected. I am curious about how many yards Breathitt had after the two big first plays. Meanwhile, Somerset rolled up 540 yards of offense.

After getting down 13-0, Somerset outscored Breathitt 40-12.

Somerset change they're coverage and the safety never came back up. Play two got beat on the edge. Can't make these mistakes next Saturday. Collins is really good, and I for one was impressed. Breathitt was way better then I thought. I made a comment long ago when I said Breathitt couldn't beat Beechwood or Walton Verona. I stand corrected, and yes they could. Great year Breathitt sorry for underestimating. GO Jumpers.
