Well, I guess he commited the biggest sin you can commit at SV. He got the kids excited about playing football instead of B-ball. Which is why he isnt getting hired back I guess. Thats alright though, he can come to Pikeville, im sure coach Jackson would treat him right. Look at all the other virgie football guys who are there now.

Might want to let Coach Jackson decide his own staff decisions there Mountainmojo.

Guys, I had an opportunity to watch several SV games this year, and Hampton did have them excited about football... but I think this man knew that he was fighting a uphill battle all season. He was made to keep an unnamed person on the coaching staff who wanted the head job (this is the leadership at SV we were talking about). This man talking bad about Hampton every chance he got trying to gain support for himself. All of the parents that I know stated that they would not let their children play for this unnamed person.

So I guess going to the playoff's in your first year as a head coach is not enough. You have to know the right person. This bringing in a "Outside Coach" is just a ploy! They (SV Leadership) just want to smooth things over with their buddies I guess. I would say that whoever gets the job will have to allow this unnamed person on the staff and have full control of whatever area he covers? Which imo is a joke! This guy I am talking about is so arrogant that when he coached at lower levels he made parents sign a contract not to talk to him about their children, or they could not play.

The young staff that was there was exciting! Hampton was starting to really come along and David Osborne really had the Offense starting to take shape... I say give them at least a full year to prove that they have what it takes. But what do I know I am just a parent! By the way how fair is this to a player like John Johnson to have the third coach in four years? I guess the SV leadership thinks that it is easy to adjust to different coaching styles!

Just as Mr. Harman was claimed to have stated, if things don't change, in a couple years, I will be driving about 12 miles farther down the river to take my child to school. A panther is a bigger cat anyway!

First:I watched SV play and under the situation that the Head Coach inherited the position I think he did a great job.
Second: I do not and would not understand the possibility of rehiring BHoward for the position. Under the circumstances why he left the program.
Thirdly: Just because a person plays college ball and his family member was a former head coach does not make him a good coach. Experience from the ground up makes a good coach IMO. Being exposed to a seasoned Head Coach makes his assit. good head coaches for the future IMO.

What happened to Ben Howard? Why did he live? Was he the head coach at one time?

Howard was named the head coach last spring. He left the team, however, before fall practice began for personal medical reasons.

Why isn't this Unnamed person the head coach then? There has to be a reason.

It sounds like football and the the kids are not what's important to the "SV leadership" if what you say is true.

We'll have to hope it's because the "SV leadership" doesn't believe he'll make an effective head coach.

That maybe so so but I've personally believed, like some of the others on this site, that Shelby Valley is a diamond in the rough. I don't know the administration but I would think they do things in the BEST interest of the school as a whole. Hopefully the coach that is hired can win and bring the fans into the Johnson Brothers Athletic Complex! Because as most of us know Football WILL bring BIG money into the athletic department!! Football and Basketball can coexist. It really does happen
