JC has played some great football this year but has a long way to go before they achieve the level that Belfry football has attained. But I dont think that since that win over NCC, Belfry has gotten any better as a team. I could be wrong but a 28-6 over Lawrence Co., 48-6 win over East Ridge, 48-0 over Magoffin Co., and a 24-20 win over Pikeville arent as impressive as its win over NCC. Haywood is a great coach no doubt and any team would be lucky to have him but im just calling it the way i see it. Good Luck to the Pirates throughout your season and believe it or not i would love to see you over any other team from this area playing on the carpet again.

You can't simply judge a team by scoring margins and impressive wins. IMO, You judge a team and it's coaching staff by the adjustments in lineup, gameplan strategies, and demeanor. Certainly, you've got to get W's....but you've got to understand that Haywood knows that he's not preparing his team for a "100 yard dash...but for a 26 mile marathon". Most competent observers will tell you this....Belfry is not nearly as good as the 2003 and 2004 teams. They don't have the same quick strike ability as last year's team. This team may very well be a work in progress right into the playoffs. You've had adjustments made at QB, DT, NG and CB. Anytime you see lineup changes (not being brought on by injury) midseason....you're dealing with a work in progress. No.. victories over E Ridge and Magoffin aren't going to impress anyone...but there's so much more that goes into preparing a team from an emotional, physical and mental standpoint. I guess that's why I took offense at your statement. Believe it or not, this team is getting better. Will they be good enough to win the district or region or somehow find their way to Louisville.....it's anyone's guess. I don't think they're the best in 2A...but from a coaching standpoint....they're hard to beat.

BTW...Johnson Central probably made the single best decision they could have in hiring Matney (a Belfry player and asst coach ). In time, IMO, you guys will find your way to Louisville. And Belfry fans everywhere will be in your corner.

Were most of the unsportsmanlike conduct penalites on SC or Prestonsburg?

There was a 45 yard penality against Prestonsburg. A player was ejected for P-burg, and a 15 yarder was thrown against a person standing on the side line for P-burg. There is more, but I cant remember them all.

There was no 45 yd penalty.....A player was ejected(which will be challenged due to a terrible call)and he got a penalty when he found out he was ejected. One was marked off the other declined as it gave SC the ball on downs.
There was a flag on the sideline(a non-player,which is why P'burg needs better control of the people inside the players box).
SC had a couple of unsportsmanlike calls as well....
Overall it was a poorly called game.

    First half:

Sheldon Clark absolutely hogged the ball. If I had to guess, they probably claimed 16 of the 24 minutes of possession time. Each of their scoring drives were helped by a long (>15 yds) 3rd down conversion downfield. Like good teams do, they took advantage of a couple of Blackcat defensive miscues on their two scoring drives.

The Blackcats played almost the entire half on their own end of the field, but had a breakout TD run by Lincoln Slone (~65 yds).

    Sheldon Clark 14 Prestonsburg 8

    Second half:

Time of possession was fairly even. Neither team's offense put together enough plays to get to the end-zone due to tight defensive play and LOTS of penalties. Prestonsburg slowly turned field position to their advantage, however, because the Sheldon Clark punter had lots of trouble getting the ball off cleanly due to P-burg's rush. It was the field possession game that put P-burg into position to kick 2 Seth Moore field goals ( of 30 and 39 yds). Late in the 4th, P-burg was driving but turned the ball over on a fumble at the Cardinal's 40 yd. line. More penalties and one extremely pretty catch by a Sheldon Clark receiver put Sheldon Clark in position to attempt a 30 yd FG for the win with :30 secs. The kick clunked off the right upright, no good.

    Sheldon Clark 14 Prestonsburg 14

    OT:

Sheldon Clark had first possession. Two inside runs netted 3 yds. The third run netted one more, but holding was called on the Cards. On 3rd and 16, a pass to the 7 fell incomplete to a diving receiver. On 4th down, Sheldon Clark kicks a FG that cleared the crossbar by about a foot.

Prestonsburg ran inside for 2 on 1st down. On 2nd down, the Cardinal defense bit on a very good Hughes belly fake. Hughes then ran it in from 8 yds around end.

Final: Prestonsburg 20 Sheldon Clark 17

Note to the officials: You're there to keep the game fair and safe. You're NOT there to take control of it and be a "third team" like happened a good part of this contest. I think the Card fans agree with that.

The P'burg kicker made his first FG in the first half. The score at half was 14-11.

My bad... I thought there was a 45 yarder in this game. The 2 guys that call the P-burg games on that channel are crazy.

Sounds like a good game for both teams. I think that SC will be ready come region play like they were last year. BUT Give credit were its due and thats to Pburg for a great, and hard nosed Team.

Things that make you say HUMMMMM??

#5 or #12??? P-burg needs better control period!! Between the whistles is something that is missed at P-burg right now IMO.

Wrong on all accounts...the ejection occured during a play.

#81 from P-burg was running abreast of a SC player just behind the QB (who was running down the sideline). The P-burg player tried to push the SC player off pursuit and the official called it a punch, ejecting the player on a personal foul.

Like I said earlier...the officials called FAR too many offsides, procedure, personal and unsportsmanlike penalties on both teams.

This marks the first game I've ever seen offsetting procedure and offsides penalties called before the snap. I didn't think that was even possible. Doesn't either foul cause a dead ball ?? Maybe they happened at the exact same time...?

    Egad, you're right !!!

The first FG was made on P-burg's last offensive play of the first half. I remember looking at the scoreboard during halftime and thinking that "11" is a number you don't see often during a ball game.
