Open enrollment is still a problem, as I know of at least a half dozen quality players that should be at Scott that are open enrolled at SK. The new coach is going to have to find a way to keep more of those kids. Scott has done much better in this area than in years past, but there is still room to improve. The youth program is solid. The middle school team has won 3 championships in the last 6 years. There are really good players in the pipeline, and on the current roster. But depth is still a problem. The next coach has got to keep fighting and battling for players to keep kids in district.

They have the right formula in Taylor Mill...they don’t have to “run a program like SK”. The program just needs to keep building and improving the program that’s in place. The “program” has been in place since Dave Campbell took over 10 years ago. It jumped a level or two under Coach Woolley. What those two coaches accomplished in a decade is really remarkable. Now, they need to get the right guy in place...the pieces are place for the program to take another jump. They don’t need to do it the SK “way”.
Rumor has it open enrollment will be ending in Kenton Co. Maybe once they do that Scott will keep some of those kids. Obviously doesn't stop them from going to Beechwood or Covcath. Good luck to the new coach! Hopefully he can keep the trend going up for Scott football!

Job was listed with the KHSAA on November 13th. General rule is that the jobs need to be listed for a month prior to conducting interviews. Tomorrow makes one month. I'd assume we will hear more talk about the folks interested in this job in the not-so-distant future, if we're going to hear about it at all before they make the hire.

Why is this the general rule? I work in school admin and that is not at all the policy in a public school.

    1. KHSAA site is not an official posting. We have never posted an open position on there.

    2. A coaching position is a supplemental position. Those don't even have to be posted. We have given positions to people the next day without it ever being "open".

Certainly if you are looking for an outside person, the more places you post it the better the chance you will get a wider variety of applicants. And giving some time to allow people to apply is something that might help as well. But none of these things are mandatory in KY.

...and supplemental positions are year to year only. There is no tenure nor long term contract in Kentucky public schools.

    Fair enough.

I guess "general rule of thumb" would have been more appropriate for me to have said. I've heard straight from the mouth of more than one public school administrator that they post jobs for a month before conducting interviews. I suppose none of them ever told me that that rule was a mandate from Frankfort or from the KHSAA, but it would certainly seem to at very least be a general practice that's observed by more than one public school district.

Brian Warner is a legendary coach with the Bengal Tigers.

Bryson Warner sounded really happy at CovCath to me.

“That offense” created the best Scott High team ever. Led them to being a miracle Hail Mary from a state finals. And pounded teams repeatedly. “That offense” was just fine.
