What if the principal like most are incompetent and can't make a hire that makes sense? I just think football people should hire football coaches, basketball people should hire basketball coaches, so on and so forth. This entire process is flawed and it's sad to see.

The principal is a football guy. From Georgia, played and coached in Georgia before coming to Kentucky.

Doesn't sounds like a guy who knows what a football coach is or he would have made the hire already and moved forward. I don't know him he might be a great guy and know about football but doesn't like it from what I read. Reading between the lines sounds like a guy that has hidden agenda if committee voted for one guy and he is saying another.

But no one knows if the committee went one way and the principal another. Because they are not saying anything. But I agree it makes you wonder if they know anything.

So the principal and the AD are going thru a stack of applicants and conveniently pickout "their guy" along with 4 weak canidates, throwing out 7 or 8 strong candidates.

After interviewing the 5 candidates, "their guy" is the best. He is hired, the cycle continues.

If you want to hire your friend, the cute girl, your cousin, your college buddy then start your own business. Transparency when working for the tax payers is a good practice to follow.

If you can't operate in the open you need to get out of education.

Well the football coach works for the principal and the AD. No need for a committee they should be able to go through the applicants and hire who they think best works with them. Not a complicated process, the more people you get involved the less productive the process is. Principals and AD's know what they need and in most instances have resources they can lean on. Not ever process is perfect and I am sure some school administrators screw it up, but getting a group of people with different agendas on the same page is tough! As and AD or an administrator you have to have confidence and the ability to make the best decision for your kids and school then support your choice!

Applications are subject to an open records request. Request the records of everyone that applied and see if the most qualified gets hired.

Do other schools use a committee for hires like this?

If the committee comes back 4 to 1 for a candidate, and the candidate is not the principal or AD's choice what should happen now?

If schools are just having these committees to appease people, then why waste their time.

If I'm a principal or AD I want as many people picking the best canidate as I can find. Like you said you want the best decision for the kids.

If 10 people pick candidate #1, an me and the AD pick candidate #4, don't you think this looks a little odd?

Take 10 people and put them on a committee and try and get them to all agree on one candidate is tough. Then if you have a candidate that fits the profile that the Principal and the AD are looking for but the parents are balking then you have issues. Those people will work closely with this teacher/coach on a daily basis, they should know what they need and what they are looking for!

Committees are put together to appease the parents and give administrators some buffer if things don't go well! If you as an administrator screw the hire up you have to fix it! Need to do your leg work talk to people keep conversations in confidence and make the best hire.
