Page 2 of Marion County began the process of filling this vacancy? If so, who are they looking at taking it? Still shocked that it's open.... 80 comments | 10199 Views | Go to page 1 →

Marion is in the process of hiring their coach. They do care and they will make a great hire.

They are interviewing. The former coach left his teaching job so that gives them that position to fill in the building. I think the hire will happen in a pretty timely manner.

That's what it was. They went 6-6 his first year with a win over Corbin in the playoffs (it was actually a beat down after being down at the half). He was also voted Coach of the Year by The News-Enterprise which serves E-town, Hardin, Meade and LaRue Counties as well as Fort Knox and Grayson County (by the area coaches I might add). He was also voted District Coach of the Year (by the coaches, again).
I know they were stupid young his last two years, plus a MASH unit to go along with one of those years.
I didn't know what to make of his last two years, either before getting fired. And, then LaRue goes out and hires a great coach with an unbelievable resume like Tony Hatmaker (20 years in college, the last six as the DC at EKU) and LaRue had the same results as Jaggers' last year. Matter of fact, they were worse against like opponents and worse in overall points scored, total yardage, etc.
I don't know how many of you know Tony Hatmaker, but he is a heck of a coach and LaRue struggled again. Things were different schematically, but veteran and/or play makers usually trumps that.
As I heard a longtime fan of that program and area in general say, "I don't know if Jaggers or Hatmaker were the answer (s), but they sure as heck don't seem to be the problem right now."
With that said, LaRue will be solid these next two years under his leadership. All of those freshmen that Jaggers started his last year there will be juniors. That group has some very solid skill kids. That group and the group behind them are tough. They both won their conference titles as 8th graders when Jaggers was there and we're very deep in numbers.
Josh will land on his feet somewhere if he so chooses or gets an opportunity. He enjoyed himself over at John Hardin this year.
This Marion County deal is going to be tough sledding no matter who is hired. They very realistically could not win a game, again next year. Everybody on their schedule returns most or all of their key playmaker and Marion actually loses over 50% of their starters for 2015.
Their 2017-2018 non district schedule is exactly the most friendly, either. I know Collins, Danville and Bullitt Central are three of those teams.
This isn't a job for somebody to go in for a couple years and think they are going to bounce to greener pastures.Last edited by Harry Doyle; Feb 14, 16 at 01:22 PM.

He was 8-26
2012 6-6
2013 0-11
2014 2-9
I'm sure there has been.
I'm sure he has inquired about the postion, but I don't know of his level of interest; not that it may matter.
It's been talked about before, but he still teaches in LaRue County. He's at an alternative school out in the county that serves as a residential facility. They have kids from all over the state.
Because of it being a residential facility, the kids actually stay there year round. So, he and the other teachers out there do a summer school program with them. They get something like 25-30 extended days, plus an additional stipend.
In short, they get paid like administrators (similar to MS/HD Assistant principal's). In the circus that is known as coaching high school sports these days, I don't know if that kind of position would be worth giving up or not to be quite honest.

From what I've heard and seen, that seems to be the case Coach Preston.
I know this year's sophomore bunch didn't win a game as freshmen, and I think they only scored in a couple games as is.
So, here they fell on hard times this year not winning a game. Hopes of doing better next year looks to be a stretch, and then the above will be seniors in 2017.
I don't see this being anything short of a grind in every sense of the word for the next two years; they better find somebody who can embrace that.

Jaggers was 10-24 the last 4 years at Larue Co. Want to win , hire the best guy. Make football a priority.

Lol. He wasn't the HC there this year.
They fired him and hired Tony Hatmaker who had 20 years of college experience, including the last 6 as the DC at EKU. A heck of a coach with an impeccable resume.
.....and, they still didn't improve.
Sounds like they have had more issues there than who the coach is the last couple seasons.

If all you want is to offer the sport..............and you only entertain those that apply..........you reap what you sow. At some point, you have to make some changes in your approach to secure your program.
