    Oliver Lucas to Dunbar?

    How likely is this?

Would it be a good hire? Bad hire?

I'm just going to throw this out there...Coach Lucas has shown that he builds a program. If you look at his runs at Bryan Station and Manual, both started relatively poorly and finished strong. That said, he has had some serious abundances of talent, like "close to if not the best in the state" levels of talent at times and has failed to get past the second round in his career. He's got to be near retirement. Does Dunbar really want to go down another 3-4 year stay coach run with another guy at the tail end of their career?

With what I have heard in the application pool, he's the only one worth hiring in terms of track record.

Three or four years would be an eternity at Dunbar.
For some reason, they usually last one or two years over on Man-o-War Blvd.

I think hiring Oliver Lucas would be a great hire for Paul Lawrence Dunbar.

Since ultra-successful Coach Mike Meighan retired after the 2000 season, Dunbar has been through some coaches.

Mark Peach, Fred Barnott, David Hensley, Jason Howell, Bob Lawson Derrick Thomas, and Paul Rains have been the head coach at Dunbar.

The next hire makes it 8 coaches in 15 seasons. That statistic speaks volumes.

They would be hitting the lottery with Coach Lucas.

Considering he is one of the few (in comparison to the ridiculous number of openings) head coaches out there in recent years to actually take on another job & it being Dunbar at that? I'd say it's really good hire. Rains was a great hire.

Amidst all of this moving and shaking, seeing a current HC leave for another head job is rare. Most are either staying put and/or getting out altogether (or assistants at a nearby school).

Coach Lucas would be an absolute homerun at Dunbar. He is a dynamic players coach that goes all out for his players. I will never be able to repay Coach for all that he has taught me. As you can tell I am quite partial, however know a great coach when I see one.

They hit the lottery when they hired Rains, word on the street is that parents had a petition to get him removed as coach. Unfortunately that school has a history of parents overstepping their bounds & creating enough friction that coaches have just given up over there.

Lucas did a great job @ Station in regards to wins/losses compared to what had occurred @ that school since John Nochta stepped down as head coach to become Principal at Henry Clay. That being said, he left the program in financial turmoil & a lot of brand new uniforms & equipment went unaccounted for after he stepped down causing the school to have to replace a lot before the next season.(not saying he took them, they were basically given away) I've also heard that Manual received a large shipment of cleats that were an unapproved order from him as well & the AD is trying to unload them. (heard this from an AD I spoke to, can anyone from Manual can chime in on this to verify)

Dunbar collects football coaches over there; Hensley retired from there after last school year after stepping down after 2008, Howell, Thomas & Rains are all still there currently.

Lucas has some family ties to Central Kentucky if I remember correctly.
