The only way Burke gets Mr. Football is if Lex Cath goes deep in the playoffs. They don't have to win 3A, but they do need to win their region.

    1. Burke (if Lex Cath gets to the carpet, even as runner up). His numbers are insane right now. 45 TD's and 2 INT's!
    2. Johnson (best all around player in the state by all accounts)
    3. Fidler (if #1 and #2 don't perform well in the playoffs and he dazzles)
    4. Everyone else

The title game will have nothing to do with this. It is awarded before the title games are played. It may awarded before the semi-state games are played.

If this were the case, and we were taking only stats in and nothing else.

Wouldn't Ron Blume have a shot?
What about Knot Centrals Bobby Owens?

Micah Johnson wouldnt have a chance to win it if he played for any team in the eastern part of the state.

Is it stats that make a player Mr. Football?
Ian Holbrook means more to Ashland- he has been playing both ways and is top 3 in the region in passing and top 10 in rushing. Not really one defense has been able to shut him down. So why not him?????

Where is Burke going to play his college ball? Argus, do you really feel that way about Micah Johnson not having a chance if he played in the Eastern part of the state? This guy is a monster, not sure if you have seen him or just making your statement based upon your loyalty to the East but, you have to trust some of the football people who know. The East must be filled with topnotch linebackers and have major D-1 scouts filling the stands during every game! Not knocking you at all but, that is a very bold statement! We in the West heard the same things last year about Pulley not deserving the award! I guess if Pulley was in the East he wouldn't have had a chance either, would have been a different player I guess.

Will getting ejected in the Caldwell game hurt Johnson's chances ?

Johnson may be the biggest prospect of the bunch but I don't see him defeating Burke.

Sometimes these awards are based upon hype, it's sad but true! In the past I have noticed that the number of schools and size of school signed with also played a part in the balloting. All three of the kids mentioed in the top three are bigtime recruits and have bigtime schools recruiting them so the race is wide open and I would not be surprised or disappointed to see either of the three win the award this year!

I forget who votes - is it AP? if not , someone please clarify.

Johnson has the college "potential". I agree that its hard to win it primarily from the D side of the ball AND I agree with those who dont think college potential should be the primary factor.

I hope a college choice doesnt sway the votes. S.Alexander was noted but I feel that could be offset by the NKY block vote. I feel they do a good job pulling together & supporting 1 primary candidiate "usually" in NKY - thats just my opinion.

Burke has incredible stats. I just hate for stats to be such a huge factor. In HS ball the quality of schedule, type of offense, and whether certain coaches "showcase" a player makes a HUGE difference in how a player is percieved.

There is no way most voters can make their own accurate appraisal unless a system is created where multiple game films (not just their best game) are available for voters to view [I doubt they are going to attend enough games].

I just cant get too excited about Mr Football because of these factors and how some deserving players get jobbed. Though I acknowledge most every player in the running is an outstanding player

YES I feel our players in Northeast Ky do not get fair consideration for awards. I've been following KY HS football for 40 years. We have no TV coverage (just WV), even the mountains get WYMT & their connection with Lexington.

Ian Holbrook is as good a QB that has EVER come out of this area. He's not 6'3" so the biggest D1's arent camped out here. But he is a Govenors Scholar & strongest player on our "good" team. Hopefully he's AT LEAST in contention for AllState & KY-TN game.

The other is WR - Angel Gurule, this young man is an incredible receiver - as well as great at everything else he does; helmet rattling DB, punter, special teams, XP's if necessary. This off the chart fine young man should be voted All State. If we threw the ball like Lex Cath, etc. everyone in the state would know his name.

PLEASE ask coaches who've seen these 2 and come watch them play if possible - they deserve statewide recognition. As Im sure so many other fine youngsters around our state do as well. I'm not going to bore you with stats - they own most our records! Our KY football is MUCH better than anyone gives us credit for - lets promote it !

    Cheers, Woody Jr.
