Best I can tell, and from what I'm told, your assessment of the 2002 and 2005 teams are way off.

Just watched the Tigers Thanksgiving practice . . . beautiful, cold morning . . . team loose, focused, and energetic . . . this should be a classic.

Mayfield just got done with practice and the Cards looked ready to go. Maybe 15 to 20 people watching practice today. Glad they came out.

Why is that? I think I'm pretty right on..if you watched the 02 team play, you would know that they were pretty cocky and did take alot of plays off..They didn't always play with alot of enthusiasm and they did have some players, i won't mention names, who were not very team oriented..they were a sr dominated team that year and were very good, but, chemistry wasn't there strong suit, although late in the year, they picked it up....The 04 team was very young, but, were always giving it all they had every play and the nucleus of that team is still there and thats carried over to this year...just my opinion and how i see this bunch.....

    Feeling my Muse tonight!

The turkey is gone, the dishes in sink,
    I've eaten a ton, had too much to drink;
The guests have departed, and I'm by the fire,
Dreaming tomorrow B-Town will go one step higher.
The Cards run the ball, they "run it right at 'em,"
    But the D-Line serves up RB's so Melvin can bat 'em;
On offense Calhoun is just one step too quick,
He pitches to Kwasi, he throws it to Dick.
The Cards keep it close, they've been here before,
and its a while before B-Town can consistently score.
But in the 3rd Qtr the Birds look a bit rattled,
They're starting to find out why Bardstown has battled.
The D holds again, and on 4th down force a kick,
and as it goes off, the Cards faithful feel sick.
The punt stayed in bounds! It missed by 3 paces!
Calhoun fields it cleanly, he's off to the races.
The score is disheartening, it breaks Mayfield's back.
They are forced to turn to their passing attack,
and, while good, its just not their style,
Its hard to make 1st downs on 3rd and a mile.
In the end, 15 seniors have their reward -
A game hard fought, a win on the board.
I awake from my brief slumber, the game's not yet here
But the visions will help me to sleep with good cheer.
Mayfield BGPers cry foul; they claim I am cocky,
that I'm boastful and proud like Jeremy Shockey.
None of the above, I reply, its just my thing -
a vision of Bardstown and a championship ring.

    GO TIGERS!

I like Mayfield's odds friday night. Control the line of scrimmage, no turnovers and this game will be ours. Bardstown looked very one diminsional to me what little I saw of them. Sweep left, sweep right and a few belly plays. No kicking game what so ever. Not much of a passing game. Nice defense it seemed. I like Mayfield 26 - 12.

    GO TIGERS!

As a journalism major I will say nice poem...very clever...but alas it is too bad for Tiger Fans that this poem will turn into fiction....Cards relish underdog role and play for their 8th state title next Saturday at PJCS...

    GO TIGERS!
    The ending:

After Calhoun celebrates the run back,
the Cardinals, now desperate, go on the attack,
down by a score with little time to go,
Shelton connects on a long pass to get them out of a hole,
on 1st and 10 at about midfield,
the Tigers find thenselves back on the heals,
Rust finds a hole for another 12 yards,
then Hatchell 9 more, is it in the Cards?
The clocks running down, so Shelton spikes it down,
on 2nd and 10 he finds Freddie Brown,
who hauls in it in and gets out of bounds.
as the fans hearts are beginning to pound,
So much at stake here in the substate,
a trip to papa johns sure would be great,
its 1st and goal at the Tiger 4.
but, only 1:00 remains for a season no more,
One team will be happy, another'll be sad,
but what a great game War memorial just had,
After 2 stops the balls on the 2,
20 seconds left, what will Coach do,
he gives it Rust, whos stopped just shy,
so they use the final timeout, before the last try,
on 4th and 1 and everyone screaming,
Hatchell goes off right side and now Joe's a beaming,
with the cards down 1, they decide to go for 2,
a very gutsy call, and everyone knew,
The Tigers burn there final timeout,
to plan a strategy to keep the cards out.
the Cards line up with the fans on there feet,
they put it in on a quarterback sneak.
Great game by both sides, no need to feel bad,
respect by both sides were certainly had..

    Awesome.

Everyone loves these Dick Vermeil endings these days . . .

Well, I'm off. Will stop in Benton for some BBQ, and then on to see the team and later to War Memrorial. Don't expect to return until after 2 p.m. or so . . . I'll post if I'm not too exhausted or crushed. Good luck to both sides.

    GO TIGERS!
