Just returned from Mayfield, and I am crushed . . . What a ballgame though. This game just goes to prove the point that football is a game that is won or lost by blockers and tacklers, not touchdown-scorers. Mayfield's OL smacked us around, and their DL obliterated the Triple Option, end of story. They were the better team, and deserved to win this game.

I cannot let this thread get away without mentioning the call late in the game. Lest I be called a whiner, I will preface this by saying that by all rights, we probably should not have been in the game, and Mayfield had beaten us soundly. But we made the 4th down stop inside our 10 and get the ball back with 1:55, down 28-21. We had A CHANCE. The play call was perfect. It was a trick play (nothing else we tried worked real well). It was executed to perfection. It confused the Mayfield defense, the fans, and unfortunately, the refs. The penalty flag they threw was for illegal shift. The ref came over and first told Joey Downs it was because 2 men were in motion. He was reminded that no men went in motion. Another ref then told him it was because a lineman didn't put his hand down. The ref was told that no lineman put their hand down, the whole team goes from arms resting on knees. The final answer given was that the team was not set for a full one second before the snap. We reviewed the film after the game several times, and there was nearly a three count. It was a bad call, and it cost a 93 yard touchdown run. End of story.

Now, I don't mention that to say that B-Town should have won the game. I think the better team won. But to end the game, and the careers of 15 seniors, on that sour a play, really made the drive home uncomfotable. You can't make that call if you're the ref.

Now to the accolades. Mayfield hospitality is alive and well. Nice townsfolk, had a dinner at Hill's BBQ that satisfied, folks at the stadium were nice. Your players have been in this game 26 of the last 31 years - they deserve a better stadium. War Memorial has character, but also has 2-3 inches of water in the locker rooms, and both teams dress elsewhere. Your C and RG on the OL, and #54 on defense, are the real deal - they punished us. Shelton runs a nice game. Unfortunatley didn't get to see him pass much. Rust and Hatchell are good high school running backs, but your real weapon is Dumas, we couldn't tackle him one on one. Toothpick, GoBigRed, Wildcatjack and CardsVoice, he is worthy of more thread advertising.

We want you to annihilate NewCath. Play like you did tonight and I think it is a foregone conclusion. Kudos Mayfield, from a vanquished foe.

With control of the line of scrimage Btown was forced to gamble when they had the ball resulting in several trick plays and more passing than Btown liked. Mayfield outgained Btown somthing like 350 - 120 in total yards. We were so successful running that we didnt have to attempt to pass though we are also a decent passing club. This Cards team is blessed with alot of weapons and a good core of hard running backs. It will take a heck of a 1A football team to beat the Cards

New Cath could beat the Cards. If they do or don't they have a chance.

This New Cath team is a good team. Everyone knows that I'm not a New Cath fan. TP ever since I have been on BP you don't think a Nky team can beat the cards.

Not exactly, I know NCC is a very good football team and I know that they are capable of beating Mayfield. The area of confusion lies is that while I know that they (NCC) can beat us, they never have to this point. In fact Sportsfan Mayfield has never lost to a NKY school. We are 2-0 against

nCC in title games. Man you have a heck of a memory

Hearsay....first off you are a class individual as is the rest of the Bardstown faithful, broadcast team, coaches, and most importantly the fine young men on the Tigers team...nothing but class...you all have the respect of this cardinal backer and I am sure most others here in Mayfield...I agree the last call should not have happened...the entire officiating by the refs had much to be desired on both sides of the ball...as in the first half there were several "VERY QUESTIONABLE" calls...hope this crew does not work the state title game...of any classification. Your team is a very talented team and while the loss hurts...you guys have nothing to hang your heads on...it was just a first class high school game...wait let me rephrase that...a FIRST CLASS FOOTBALL GAME PERIOD. Nip and tuck the entire night...great players and great adjustments by the coaching staff on both sides. Obeng is the fastest guy in pads I have seen and Scott is a warrior...watching him and Hatchell battle all night was a game inside the game as two warriors battling for their team. And you are right...Dumas had his best game on both sides...and that is saying something as he has really stepped up in the playoffs...and I think all the talk about all the speed of Bardstown really got to him the most as Dumas has been to the state track finals himself and took it personally to show that the Cards have more speed that what most people think...and alongside Hatchell and Rust...we have a very nice compliments of backs...quick and powerful and as you saw last night the first guy hardly evers brings them down on his own and the cards backs always fall forwards for positive yardage.

Great job tonight by everyone but especially the OL/DL...and a special shoutout to Tommy Mcnutt for going 5-5 on PAT's in what looked to be several times that the kick could have been blocked...because usually in a game like that with momentum swings on both sides a blocked or missed PAT could be the difference...and your kicker Seaman is a very good placekicker. I think you could talk about this game for a long time...well then again my team came out on the positive side of things...just a shame this game could not have been played at Papa Johns for the state title...as it will be hard to top. Great Season Tigers...and best of luck in '06

I stand corrected... I truly thought Bardstown would win state this year, evidently Mayfield must have a talented squad! Good luck to the Cardinals in A. Congrats to Bardstown, going 13-1 is quite an accomplishment, you all have a lot to show for this season. Bardstown beat some GREAT teams on their way to a state semi game and district championship.

The Cards are peaking at the right time!!! Hats off the Bardstown fans, staff, radio team and players...very nice and I often saw Cards and Tiger players helping each other up. My fe observations:

1.)I am amazed that Bardstown gives up 50 all season and Mayfield score 28 on offense and should've scored 7 more. A tribute to the OL of Mayfield and a good job by all three backs hitting the holes. Hard to beat a team who has 2nd & 3's, and 3rd & 1'a all night!

2.)I wouldn't call Bardstown soft, but I don't think they have been hit as hard as they were last night...their radio guys were saying Mayfield is the most physical team they've seen all year.

3.)Great job by "D" coordinator Brad Lawson of Mayfield to get a scheme to neutralize the option attack...what guts to play a 3-5 all year then run a 5-3 in the substate game against #1 Class A team!

4.)Great crowd and fan support last night!

5.)I think NCC is a good foe, but if Mayfield plays like they did the last three weeks I don't think they can be stopped.

    Good season Tigers!!!

Wow! This is my first post in probably three years, and my question to my fellow cardinal fans is WHERE DID THIS TEAM COME FROM!!!??? I have just moved to the state of Arkansas (surrounded by razorbacks...yikes) but before I left, I got to see the Marshall Co. game. I've got to be honest, I didn't think there was any possible way that mayfield would be going back to Louisville this year. I am amazed. Anyway, now I have to depend on the internet to find out anything..so keep it coming guys. This cardinal/cat fan located deep in the heart of the Ozarks really appreciates it.

Hi toothpick...my daughter (M.K.) sends her best to your daughter(C).
